sundog,

From what I have been seeing at gun shows, it is a fair price. A finer beginner deer rifle can't be had at any price. And should be a good cast shooter too. Don't know how much experience you have with 99's but setting the sizing die to minimize or eliminate head space does wonders for accuracy with these rifles. Many end up being sub MOA.

The last 2 99s I saw for sale up this way carried $450.00 price tags, one was a 300 and the other was a 308. They're getting scarce. I checked the Kittery Trading Post used gun inventory and they don't have a single one listed.

Sundog, if you buy it, I doubt you'll regret it. I traded for a 99A just a short while back, and I really like it. I'm working on a 99C at the shop that was left out in a barn for several years. Reblued barrel and lever, e-nickeled the receiver, and refinished the wood, and it's a real beaut now. If I can ever get the time to do some work on my own guns, I'll be at least rebluing my gun and refinishing the wood. That e-nickeled receiver sure looks good, though, and I may well wind up emulating the C-model. Mine needs a little smoothing up, but the trigger's pretty good. The gun's really grown on me, big time. FWIW?

Got one. Paid a lot less, but it was a few years ago. As has been noted here, it's one of the finest rifles in existance, and IMHO THE FINEST deer rifle around. In 358 it would just be that much better. Get it or regret it.
