Corkey,

My 323366 measures .324 from Wheel weights. It's a 8mm alright, but it shoots only fair in the 5 different rifles I tried it in. It looks like a 8mm is supposed to look with a condom on it, but looks are deceiving. The standard 30-06 load of 22gr. of 4198 it crawls along at 1680fps. 3 to 5" groups are the norm for it. 28gr 3031 aren't a heck of a lot different. For some reason worn barrels seem to shoot a bit better when sized to .323. I doubt that a newer 323366 would cast any bigger, and just when the number change came is something for Floodgate to chime in and answer....Geo

I 'll Chime In But Do Not Know When It Was Changed.i Have A Number Of Lyman Molds That Were .308 And Changed To .311.probable When It Was Found The New Specs Shot Better.actually That Bullet Was Inteded Probable For 1888 Mauser Bore Size.as Alot Of 88s Were Spoterized By German Gunsmiths Between Ww1 And Ww2.

I've always liked this bullet, sort of a miniature artillery shell you can shoot out of a rifle! I've shot alot of these and have always had alot of fun with them.
A hundred cartridges in twenty clips, a 1888 commission carbine and a high sierra pond well off the beaten path are all i need .
8gr of red dot keeps range, noise and recoil low and a hill on the far end of the water serves as a backstop. This is a target rich environment, lots of old fallen trees extending into the water with very hard 1-2ft branch bases sticking out of the trunks. My 320366's strike these bases, make a huge shatter of splitters. Then as a added bonus , the bullet continues on to skip for 15 or 20 splashs across the water.great fun ,but It is sometimes nessary to turn my attention to the pairs of 3in wingspan dragonflys that fly close to the water like patroling helocopters.Unmatched flying ability keeps them out of harms way as they climb , skid and dive fragile 15 grain air frames pass my 182 grain bullets and thru the splashs that tower over and around them.
Dragonfly shooting is fast work and not very rewarding-no hits. I lower the muzzle of my carbine toward the water which is crystal clear and about 8 ft deep and oh well, what have we here - loose groups of mid-size trout moving slowly a few feet off the bottom. not legal and unsportsmanlike to shoot, but not as harmful as you might think. shots go in hard and fast, faster than the fish can react-at first, but then after a few feet the bullet goes from point first to base first and everything goes down hill from there. they angle down trailing bubbles and by 6 ft they are not much of a threat. fish don't like it and move on unhurt -thats about it,I would have better luck with a pole.
