Gents, my idea is to put a router speed control onto the line going to my Lyman heater base unit that bolts to bottom of my Lyman 450 lubrisizer.

Cost aside, should I get the 15 amp Harbor Freight or the 20 amp Griszzly made model.

HF is half cost of Grizzly but what is driving my concern is do I need a 15 or 20 amp control unit.

I would like to buy once if possible so your experience is most appreciated.

how many amps does the heater claim to pull? Let us know how it works as I will be trying it if Lyman will fix my 4500 Good luck!!!

I would expect either one to work quite well.
I just used a junction box, an outlet, and a dimmer switch. A few bits of wire, a piece of old extension cord, and a few wire nuts. It works quite well. Cost about 10 bucks tops. I am also about as ignorant on wiring as the next guy but it was pretty easy for even me to figure out.

Fifteen amps would be 1800 watts. Either one of them should easily handle a heater big enough to warm up some lube.

The Lyman heater is only about 75 watts. That is easily handled by a common light dimmer switch available at any hardware store. Buy a square electrical box, a hank of line cord, a plug, and socket, and wire one up as has been suggested.

On the other hand, either of the speed controls will work VERY well.

For years I have used a Dremel speed control I already owned. My heater is a Lyman flat plate. It is pre-drilled for Star, Lyman, RCBS and Saeco lube/sizers. It is a good piece of gear. Since I use Carnauba Red (Lars White Label Lube) I use my Lyman heater every time I lube bullets.

Used a 600W dimmer switch for a Dremel tool. Need the dimmer and an electric box. it is a stepless unit but under $12 and works well

I have used the HF router speed control for my lube sizer heater control for over 3 years now.
It works VERY well. I run it in the full mode till it gets up to temp, then switch it to the varable setting to keep the temp where I want it to be.

I have been very well pleased with mine. I watched till it came on sale to buy it.

20GIFT is a 20% off standing coupon code at Harbor Freight. I bought the same control for my 4500's plate.

Its on sale right now so my timing yesterday to get it was on the mark.
For some reason our local HF store gets these in and they sell out by the
time I drive up there. This has happened twice. However, hit pay dirt yesterday.
