I'm wanting to match a high polish SS Vaquero grip frame to a satin SS finished Super Blackhawk. Before I tackle it, has anyone "been there, done that"? I was just going to go with a high grit 1200-1600 wet sand paper and go easy until the desired effect. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Downeastgunworks.com would be my answer, Jim has a bead blaster. Other than that, he knows his guns and finishes.

I bead blast SS quite often to get the satin finish. It's not hard just make sure you are using the right size glass bead and not sand.

I know some folks who have had good results using a scotchbrite pad and elbow grease.

There is not a doubt in my mind that a good bead blast finish will far exceed anything else.

That said I know someone that bought a Taurus 431 that either came from the factory highly polished or was done after sale.

Some time spent with Scotchbrite pad with care to maintain the direction of movement did a pretty decent job of softening the glarey finish.

At best it is still 50% as a good glass bead bead blasting job. Individual small points of impact handle reflection differently versus longitudinal scratches and so just gives a much more eye pleasingr appearance.
