Charter Arms 44 Spcl

I am considering getting a C.A. in 44spcl. Could anyone that has one tell me what there cylinder throats are bored to?

Mine are .431... But I have no problems shooting .430 cast boolits-good accuracy and no leading.

I have had one and shot the $tuff out of it for the last 3 years. It is my favorite all around gun. First two are heavy home made ratshot and the last three are my favorite 260 grainers over unique. Good guns, but I have never slugged one. It works as is, so I just go with it.

I have the new model 14420, less than a month. One throat is .431 and the other four are .430. It shoots about 3 inches right of center at 25 feet. I'd rather it hit a little closer to home, but for what I carry it for, it suits me.

The only thing that kinda' concerns me is the thin cylinder walls. .058 just seems to be a bit on the light side. I'm sure the thing is built to stand SAAMI spec ammo, I'm just sayin' those thin walls kinda' get my attention.

I have an older model Bulldog and shoot .432" in it.

I never checked mine, but it shoots my .432s fine. If i had it to do over i would get the hammerless for ease of draw.
as for the thin cylinders its true but I have pushed mine to max book loads with out trouble (except for recoil)

Out of curiosity, how do the cylinder walls on a S&W 696 measure?

Don't own a 696, but the cylinder walls on Janet's S&W mod. 19 are .090.

Is that a new finish on the SS guns?

I shoot the 200 grain Lee sized 0.431" out of mine, 0.430-0.431" throats in the cylinder as I remember it. this is using pin gauges.

I have 44 mags so I stick with about 3/4 of max level loads in the 44 spl and they shoot well.

On a Bulldog the tolerable recoil level is usually reached before the safe pressure limits....which are somewhere well beyond SAAMI.
