I consider the Model 29 and 629 Smith's to be about the best out there. They are not the strongest but they are strong enough. I have over 10,000 rounds of .44 Magnum ammo through my Smith (all my cast bullets and all my reloads). I have taken several deer with it, from 10 yards to 85 yards. All but the first were one shot kills.

Good revolvers if you realize that they have limits and you don't exceed those limits (in my case, a 250 gr cast Keith ahead of 24.0 grs of H110).

Here is my 629 Light Hunter:

Now, to be fair, I include my Ruger Red Hawk - it has been my "bad weather" gun - also, my heavy bullet, heavy load gun:

NOTE:
All three handguns have the scope mounted between the sights and a simple removal of the scope allows the "pre-zero'd" iron sights available in case needed.

Fine example of Smith's finest. What kind of mount is that?

I don't know what gun you are asking about, but mine is Weigand. No gunsmithing for the newer S&Ws.

Thanks, Crabo,

I'll have to go to their site and check it out, ever had any slippage?

44man;
Thank you, my friend. That kind of fell into my lap. I stopped by the local gun shop and saw it in the case. He had sold it to a long time customer - he apparently had shot it just a few times and brought it back. After a bit of discussion it was priced to me at a very attractive price.

I got it home and it had the smoothest double action I had ever seen. Unfortunately, it was at the expense of reliability. It wouldn't reliably fire:sad:

A new set of matched springs from Jerry Miculek tuned to 9.0 lbs dbl action and 3.0 lbs single action and I was in business. It is truly a fine revolver. I am not particularly crazy about the muzzle brake but it DOES reduce muzzle flip.

The scope mount is well thought out using a cut in the rib for a positive recoil lug. Further, the scope mount is detachable for use in all weather. IT appears that the designer may be a real hunter...

No slippage. It is a great mount, easy to put on and take off if you want. I don't use the slots on my barrel because I don't like the way the gun balances with it on the barrel when shooting offhand.
