Have a bunch of 225 gr round nose boolits I plan on using with 4.8 to 5.2 grains of Clays.
Going to shoot this in a Kirst Konversion cylinder in my Pietta 1858 Remington.
Looking for a mild load to plink with.
Reason for the Clays is I have 4 lbs of it.

I loaded 1,000 .45 Long Colt with Clays under a Western Nevada Hardcast 255 gr RNFP shortly after I got my Vaquero; I don't remember the amount offhand, but they shoot to the same point of impact that .45 ACP 230 grain ball does in the ACP cylinder I fitted to it.

I think I still have a few hundred out in the barn. I'll have to look. They also shot okay in an 1894CB.

5.0 of Clays under a 225/230 LRN will be a fine mild plinking load. I use 6.0 in a Ruger, but you are probably wise to load a bit milder for that conversion cylindered gun.

I use 4.5 grains of clays with both 200 and 255 gr bullets for cowboy shooting. I have never had a failure to fire and I love that load. Nice light, quiet, and you get a fast second shot. Also never had a problem in the 1894CB.

I started today loading 4.7 grains of Clays, all I can say is that isn't much powder in that 45 LC case..

i use 5 grs with all my cast from 160 to 255's.
it's under the 14k cowboy range.
and the 160's have less recol than most light 158 gr 357 loads do.
mainly because of gun weight.

Yes, it really makes you look when checking for doubles charges.
