I was looking at GB in the springfield pistols. I will be showing my ignorance. But what is a 45 GAP.

Who's this Guy ?

Glock Action or automatic pistol or something to that effect. It is shorter than the 45 acp with similar ballistics so it can be used in pistols with a thinner frame. Glock models 37 and 38 maybe. Springfield did have a pistol in that chambering but now I don't know if they still do or not. I believe the New York State Police is now using the Glock in this caliber or transitioning to it, so I heard.

It means "Glock Action Pistol" shorter case length by about 1/16". I have seen the round and wondered if it was going to be like the. 257 round.

It's a boutique for aging one-time teeny-boppers where they sell overpriced jeans and too tight tops..........

GAP does indeed stand for Glock Action Pistol. The round runs up around 30,000 for working pressures. It does that so it can achieve ACP ballistics with a shorter case. The case also has a rebated rim.

Glock came up with the round so it would give 45 ACP ballistics in their 9/40 sized pistol frame.

There are at least five agencies that use it including the Florida State Patrol. It has it's fanboys.

NYSP went to it a couple years before I retired. They wanted something with more power than the 9mm and they needed something the midgets and girly boys could handle without crying. Hence, the 45 GAP.

At least it duplicates the ballistics of the 45 ACP. That is one redeeming characteristic of the cartridge. I would guess mfg's will continue to push this since it simplifies their process and reduces engineering costs. One action that supports 9mm, 357 sig, 40 s&w and 45 gap with only a barrel and breech face change.

Gonna be a dead cartridge before it gets to it's 20th birthday, IMO.

I love it for use in IPSC competition using moonclips in the S&W 625.
With it's shorter OAL it makes for faster reloads than standard .45ACP.
