Now that the parts are on the way for the old Spainish actions "Saved from the recycle bin", I can start thinking about loading for them.

I know the tiny 25s will be a challange for me just to get good boolits every time. I think I'm looking for a light and heavy boolits (not sure 100gn SWCish counts as heavy) and something around 95gns to patch. A light boolit might be served by a PB pistol type (50gn for 25auto?) . Any sugestions , a pointy coyote bullet maybe , I intend to cast the patched boolit soft for use some day on an antelope ,1/20,and a little harder for a deer,ACWW, expecting the load to shoot right off of course.

All suggetions welcome.

I own a 257 Roberts and my son and I were talking about using the rifle in an upcoming trip to the range just last night.

I use two jacketed bullet weights for deer, the 100gr Spitzer and the 117gr Spitzer from Sierra for my deer loads. They both shoot well out of my Adams & Bennett barrel. I do have some 87gr and 68gr jacketed bullets sitting on a shelf but I just haven't developed a varmint load yet for them.

For cast, I primarily use a Herters 100gr Spitzer mold (a blatant copy of Ideal's 257418) for everything under the size of a deer but the most dangerous item that boolit has dispatched was a groundhog at 50 yards (and not even a serious tusker either...).

and I believe the 25ACP bullet molds drop at .251 so that 50gr boolit would be too small for your bore.

Well that little ACP might be perfect to cast for paper. I was just thinking out loud at that point.

The rifles will be a matching pair when they're finished, sort of left and rt book ends ,for my Mom/Dad and I .Dad says he always wanted 1 ........for my Mom.

Oooh! Patching such a short boolit could be fun. I can patch a 120gr boolit OK One could reduce boolit weight by casting them hollow nose but there would be a limit to that. The 257 has a 1-in-10 twist does it not? That would limit the velocity some anyway so there may not be that much point in going too light. But if you already have the 25 ACP mold then do try it. Cast them hard perhaps? And if it works please let us know then I'll try the same in my 25-303. In fact I might just try some anyway - I have an adjustable mold for paper patch for it.

Yes 1-10 is it for the 25s as far as I have seen . Most of the 25s I've seen its 50/50 on the 117/120s in jacketed to shoot well.

As for the 50gn it occured to me after I posted that those might be little more than buckshot . What's that tag its all just a guess untill you pull the trigger, I like having the guess be more SWAG than WAG.

Lots of fitting and polishing still to do so plenty time to sort things out and find proper moulds.

My 257 likes CBE's 25790 cast of ww+2% tin water dropped with 10gr of H110.
