What a behemoth! I'm told these presses have been discontinued for over 20 yrs. I honest will have to re-enforce the loading bench. This is such fun overkill. I think I will load 22 Hornet to celebrate. :bigsmyl2:

Woah, you sure that press can handle that? Might be a little too much for it! Lol

It may just have been the most powerful press ever built; the mechanical advantage developed was astronomical and could handle any task of reforming and/or swaging. I remember full length sizing 06 cases with two fingers. It was ahead of its time with thru the ram collection of spent primers and universal shell holder system. My only complaint with it was the spent primer collection cup which was not securely held in place and swometimes 'took a dump" on the floor. Heavy, of course, as presses go, the bench had to be sturdy and the bolts used to secure it had to be beefy....5/16 or 3/8"; you definitely did not want the press to work loose or worse still...fall on your foot. I believe it was the best press that RCBS ever made and I never understood why they discontinued it. But there are lots of things in life that we never get to understand. That C&H Champ wasn't exactly anything to sneeze at either LLS

Quasi, that C-H is beautiful. What was your serial #? Mine is in the low 3XXX. How many were produced? I had never actually seen a Big Max in person, I need to check it out a little closer. The spent primer collection will need to be investigated. It will probably see swaging duty(7 Rem Mag being the lagest cal I load for) as I have a 'Chucker, several turrets and am contemplating a Projector.

Dieguy, I cannot remember the serial#. The Big Max is a very good press, I sold mine because I found the C&H more ergonomic for me , and the Big Max sells for a good price on Ebay, which is where mine went.

The rcbs is nice, but i have always thought of the champion as being the nicest SS ever made. BTW wasn't the old original C-H heavyweight the first of it's kind to have the drilled through ram primer disposal?

Are those presses tall enough to load .50BMG?

And is the Big Max made of iron or aluminum?

The Big Max is all iron, there was also a model made with the "O" turned 90 degree's, i.e. running front to back instead of left to right.

The C&H won't load .50 BMG, I do not think the Big Max will either but am not sure.

The C&H's ram is drilled at an angle for the primer chute hole, the ram is solid heat treated 1 3/16" 4140. The RCBS A2 and 3 were the first presses that I am aware of that had this.

The Big Max ram is a heavy wall tubing, 1 1/8" I think. The Lee classic and RCBS Ammomaster have similar tube rams.

I'm told it can do 50cal. I have a friend with a 50 BMG who may call on me, but generally I'm just a sucker for a deal. Especially if I've never had the chance to get my grubby hands on one before. Reload3006, the shipping label said $40( there was also 300 piecs of 30-30 brass, but it is a beast).

there is a hole drilled at an angle, from the center of the ram under the shell holder, out the back of the ran approximately 4 inches down. You need to put a cup or small bucket below and back of the press to catch primers. This system was originated on the RCBS A2 and A3 presses.

I have 3 of the Big Max presses with the oldest being serial number 3, supposedly belonging to Fred Huntington. It has a custom bent handle. I had 4 but gave one to a good friend of mine.
