I picked up an early Marlin 1895 45-70 with the 1/2 mag, crescent butt plate and straight stock. It has micro-groove rifling that is heavily lead fouled. The previous owner shot soft under sized cast through it.What's the best way to get back some rifling?

pioneer - If it were mine, I would soak it good with Kroil first and let it sit a couple of hours. Then take a - worn out, if you have one - bronze bore brush and wrap it with Chore Boy. Scrub the daylights out of it - 20 strokes maybe. Patch it out, soak it again & repeat. You'll get it clean after a while.
Then, this exercise will remind you not to use boolits that aren't big enough!!! Good luck. Let us know how it goes. enjoy Mike

You don't even need the Kroil, the chore boy alone will hog the lead out pretty quick. I like 10 to 20 strokes with the chore boy followed by a dry patch. Take a look down the bore, I'd you see lead then repeat.

Took near 3hrs to clean the bore of the Marlin and a Husqvarna FN 98 sporter in 9.3x62.A lot of **** and metal build up over time.I went the Kroil/copper pad route and Sweets 7.62 for the 9.3

Just be careful that the "Choreboy" you're using IS Copper.
SOME imitation brands are copper plated steel.
You can ruin a gun pretty quickly that way.

They were 100% copper so I should be OK
