Got a question. I have an 870 bbl with full choke and another with cylinder bore. A buddy want one to make into a riot gun. Cutting the bbl down to 18.5" which one would have the tightest bore?. I think the cylinder bore would basically have just a straight bore and the full choked one would be the smaller of the two. Thanks, Frank

No problem. They will be the same. In a fixed chocked barrel the choked area is only the last 2-3 inches of the barrel. I would shorten the cylinder bore barrel and keep the full barrel for trap shooting or some hunting situations.

Winner!

Keep the full and play with the other.

There will be no difference on which barrel will have any constriction once cut back. The choke is the last 3 - 5" of the barrel, depending on the amount of choke tightness, even less for the cylinder bore. The remainder of the tube length will have "cylinder bore" choke (no choke restriction at all). If the ball were in my court, I`d keep the cylinder bore and sell the full choke one.Robert

If you have a fixed choke 870 barrel, I'd hang onto it. They are hard to come by since they have had thread in chokes for so long.

Thanks to all who responded. The cylinder bore bbl measures 18 1/8" long. From muzzle to breechface. Frank
