How do you seat these big HPed boolits without bruising the oglives !!!!

I traded for some 358429s that have huge HPs & are soft !!!

Gave so inconsistent depths[smilie=b: I bulged some cases by crimping in the wrong place :groner:

Have you tried a flat nose seating plug in your seating die ?

I took a 429 Seating die plug from my Lyman 38 / 357 Seater die
and converted it to a totally flat end. I learned this trick from
" Beagle ".

It makes no marks on SWC bullets ( solids or HP's ) that have a
flat meplat on their end.

RCBS will make a custom seater stem for your dies for about $20. You send them 3 bullets and they make the stem. They also have a few seaters for specific bullets, like Gold Dots, which may be close to your hp's profile and not cause too much deformation.
Another option is to mold your own perfectly fitting seater plug with a bit of JB Weld or similar product. Fill your hp with wax prior to making the "cast"in your current stem. Use car wax on the tip as a release agent.

Ben , I ground all my plugs flat along time ago !!

As far as the othr suggestions Thanks but I only have a few more to load & then it`s back to my HPed boolits.

The boolits are really soft !!

UUuummmmm, So...., using a flat plug you're still getting noses that are deformed ? ?

Yep !!!

Went & checked the boolits , 9bhn with my lee tester .

No biggie , I`ll run em in a 222rem sizer enuff to get em to chamber reliably , that should take em down to .377" & best I can measure leave me with a .357+ boolit .

Beagle has written about turning down aluminum stock to make a flat punch with a prong or tine that fits the HP hole. He turns it out on a drill press with a file. Flat point with a custom made point to fit the HP cavity would be the ticket.

To tell ya da truth it actually entered my mind to just remove the seater plug & turn a point on a screw to fit the inside of the hp ,but as I said earlier I don`t have the mold but if I did that`s exactly what I`d do !!

If you need a short term fix, try a small ball of aluminum foil lightly crumpled up. First drop a small dab of boolit lube in the die to act as glue and then insert the foil ball and then press a boolit in to form the ball into a seater plug. It may not be the best but it does work.
