I have been nosing around trying to find grips appropriate for a Five screw S&W "N" frame . What I've learned along the way may or may not be fact but since I'm not a collector of stuff that old I'm still looking for answers .

It appears to me that there is some variation in grips for guns of that age , at least it seems that way with the grip panels being numbered to the gun . What I'd like to find out is , will grips made today to fit the "N" frame fit a gun of the early fifties properly ? One grip maker I've spoke with can't promise it will .

I suppose I could go to the auction sights and look for an original , but the stuff I've seen there is eighty bucks and up . This project isn't to restore an old gun just find grips that fit the frame right and feel better to the owner than a set of "Grippers" he's using .

Going back to "service" grips with a Tyler adapter is an option and I'd like to find a few more options if I can .

Thanks for any help .

If you want target S&W grips $80 is a great price. For a five screw 44,you would need the "Coke bottle grips" very rare...$200 and up.

I have heard of the "coke bottle" grips , thanks for letting me know they are the correct ones . I thought I saw a set of diamond center target grips for well in excess of a hundred bucks . I don't recall what the price was on the last set of diamond center "service grips" was .

So many nice looking grips , just not sure if they'll fit :(

"Early fifties" N-frames would most likely have diamond magnas of this basic style.
Target stocks were not common until the mid-fifties.

Jack:
Is your gun a mid-fifties .44 Magnum? A nice set of correct "Coke Bottle" target grips will be $400+ ! A decent later set of correct vintage diamond target grips will at least $200.
If you are shooting hot .44 Magnum loads I would not recommend either ! Nice wood grips by Kurac would be my choice !

My .44s are seventies and later vintage . The old guys gun is a three fifty-seven with a set of rubber grips he doesn't like all that well . Those diamond magnas are considerably different than the magnas that came on my '85 vintage forty-four .

Wow do the pictures of your guns ever cause slobber to accumulate on the keyboard !!

Got any extra diamond magna grips that need a home ?

I'd guess perhaps the S&W forum would be the spot fellas . I did some searching and ended up there . Several times it was mentioned to find them in the classifieds ....... not being a member there , I couldn't view them .

While they look nice I don't know as I care for the flare at the bottom of the grip , but then I have nylon monogrips on my two forty-four revolvers and like them ;) Perhaps he has different styles but I can say they are colorfull grips and look very good on the guns I've seen .

I am sure Kurac would customize any of his grips to fit your needs. He makes mine without the medallions and without the speed loader cutouts ! I own seven sets for all of my 624 revolvers.
Check in over at the Smith & Wesson Forum and send him a message.
