I took my wife shooting today and she was shooting 38 Special in my 686. She had a very high rate of light primer strikes. I didn't have any. Is there any technique by which she could make that happen shooting double action? Maybe it's time to replace some springs? I only have maybe 2500 rounds thru the gun.

Do you have the mainspring turned all the way in? Is this the standard 686 or the 686 Pro?

What he said. I had the same issue with the 327 PC TRR8 and just had to turn screw for the mainspring in a turn and a half.

It's a standard 686. I've never adjusted the main spring. I'll do that.

Also check for hammer drag along the inside of the frame/ side plate.

Might want to check and see if the firing pin contacts the frame as it enters battery. I know it's supposed to clear the entry but as the firing pin is not fixed, it can swing up and just nick the frame as it enters. Have had that problem and it resulted in light strikes once in awhile.
