That won't last ten years in MY ammo locker! My buddy and I go thru about one of those each trip to the range. Scoped Ruger auto pistols at 100 yards and a few rifles eat that ammo like a kid eats candy!

While that sounds like a lot--just figure what we all pay to fill our gas tanks these days, each week....

Where did you find that ammo at that price?

Just keep an eye on how many 'extra' pairs of shoes the wife will buy in the 2 years, you'll have spent less than she did if she's like the majority of them ;-)

every time I went to walmart to get something for the wife, I would stop by the ammo counter and pick up a box of winchester "333" for $9.99 a box.
I stopped buying them when I hit 18 boxes.

I think its now $12.99 a box.
I once went there and they had 20 boxes of '333' on the shelf. This was when they were regulating the amount you could purchase to just 2 boxes of anything.
I told them I wanted to purchase 5 boxes. The guy said sorry 2 boxes max. I said there isn't a sign and you had 15 boxes on the shelf 3 days ago. So he called the manager on the radio and he said to sell me whatever I wanted. He said let me get your 5 boxes..... I said I don't want 5 boxes... I now want 15 boxes......
Sold 5 to a coworker for cost.

Can't reload 22lr so I got to stock up. I got a lot of 22's to feed.

Years ago when ever I saw a brick for under $10 I'd buy it. I have a very nice stash now, just sorry I didn't get more Federal Gold medal stuff.

HI,
I got it at Cabellas.
Yes I remember $8 a brick of 500. Wish I had bought a lot more back then. Heck the wife even bought several bricks back then as presents for our kids.:Fire::Fire:

I always stock up when I can get a good buy. Gander Mountain also has the Federal on sale for 14.95 this weekend. Back in the 90's when Clinton was doing his thing, I bought a Bulk Pack of the Federals every pay day. I wasn't shooting much back then, and before long I had a closet full of it. Then the kids got a 10/22 and they nearly emptied my stash in 18 months. I soon learned to train kids with a single shot.

Those prices make me weep when we're paying $60+ for T22's. Last time I got Win Subsonics they were $8 for 50.

Not bad, I think those are usually $19.99 at Wally World here.

I figure 10 bricks wouldn't last me a year. And that's just .22's.

I paid $16.50 per brick of Blazer .22lr at the gun show here in Birmingham this past Saturday. I left with 10 bricks.

Boom Boom, you don't actually spend anything on ammo until you actually shoot it. What you just did was a currency conversion. Maybe if you explained that to the Mrs, she wouldn't be quite so mad about it....

I'm still shooting stuff that is marked $7.99 per 525 round bulk pack. The winchester wildcat stuff marked $5.99 has long since been shot up. I keep enough .22 on hand for a good long while of shooting without restocking, but that would be dumb. Next year you all may be happy when you see $17 per brick...buy it while you can and stack it deep.

I bought myself an GSG-522 for a late birthday present two weeks ago. You don't want to know how many yankee dollars I have spent since then on 22 shells. The 22rd stick magazine isn't too bad, but the included 110 round drum is a killer if you have younger family members over for a visit...

Not meaning to offend anyone, but isn't it noteworthy that drug culture terminology has crept into our general usage ie: "score", a term when used as the o.p. did in the drug culture referring to obtaining drugs.

Wonder how that reflects on our society?

Probably somewhat off topic for this thread, but just an observation.

The drug culture must have stolen the term score, it had nothing to do with drugs when I was younger.

I've run about 500 of the m-22 winchester thru my marlin 795. It goes bang. Its not as accurate as the super-x or federal 510 in this rifle, but is certainly adequete for killing cans or hunting. Once in a while the bolt will not stay back after the last shot in the clip, but so what for the price?

Brilliant! Why haven't I thought that before? I like to buy the Remington 525 round "bulk ammo" they sell at the bi-mart's around here. If i remember correctly it usually runs around 15 bucks. I like to really stock up to save myself from the ever so common price markups.

Anyone have some feedback on this round, the Blazer HV 22's?

I've been using Rem, Winchester and Federals, but that price is tempting...

Thanks,

CCI sells their Blazer line as cheap practice ammo. For that purpose, it's just fine, but remember, there's a reason it's cheap....

I shoot a Lot of CCI Blazer .22LR ammo. Not only is it reliable but is one of the most accurate ammo I have found in my various Target and plinking rifles without going to the More expensive Match grade stuff . It is Way more accurate than Remington Golden or Winchester Wildcat or the Federal stuff .
It shoots tighter groups than the higher cost Mini-mag CCI and stingers too.
I buy it in Bricks when I can find it up here .

I think CCI Blazer is good plinking ammo. Some of my .22 autoloaders are particular about which Federal or Winchester round I use. Winchesters have been the biggest problem feeding. The Federals feed OK but the rounds don't seem to be consistant anymore. One round will have a sharp report and the next will be pop. I have no issues at all with the CCI.

I'm shooting up the Federal and Winchester ammo and stocking up on CCI Blazers.

.............Way back in the -80's I'd gotten a raise at work ($25/week) and didn't mention it to the wife. Each Friday I'd go buy a couple pounds of powder (yes, a COUPLE pounds) or 22 LR ammo or some other gun related something or other. I kept that up for quite some time, and I had a very WIDE assortment of bricks of 22LR ammo. At one time I had over 30K rounds.

In the late 90's I'd bought a BSA Martini target rifle ...............

http://www.fototime.com/0D9C2F993D188A9/standard.jpg

I was sitting at the bench with a multitude of 50 round boxes of ammo. The rangemaster asked me what I was doing and I said I was checking to see what the rifle liked best. He laughed and said, "Heck, they don't even make half of that stuff anymore!" :-) In the early 2000's I'd discovered that Winchester Dyna-Points worked well in ALL my 22's and in a couple they shot as well as some dedicated target ammo. At the time it was hard to find. Gossip had it that it was a "Brand" that was supposed ot be exclusive to K-Mart. K-Mart hardly ever had any.

One day the rangemaster set down a brick of'em on my bench and said look what I just bought at Walmart. At K-Mart (when they even HAD any) they were $12 somehting a brick. At Walmart (and they were spotty also) they were $9.83/brick. Over time I finally got tired of buying 1 brick here, 3 bricks there, etc, and then not finding any for sometime. I finally bought 2 cases ($98.30 per) at the local Walmart. That was about 2006 or so if memory serves. I have maybe a half a case left.

Right at the beginning of the big ammo-component disappearance I was in the Walmart looking for more Dynapoints (found out they didn't even LIST them as available anymore) and saw some Federal 550 packs at $11.87. I finally was able to get someone to check and they had 2 cases in the back. I said I'd take a case, and the helpfull person brought out the 2 cases. I should have bought both, but I only took the one, and still have to crack it. I still have bricks dated from the early 90's, and yes some they don't make anymore :-) I just went out and checked and I've got a couple bricks each of PMC Zappers and Sidewinders dated 9-88! That was 23 years ago and they were $11.49 then, which isn't THAT cheap. Dyna-Points now sell for $27/brick.

The thing is something the gun writter Dean Grennell wrote many years ago in one of his early ABC'S Of Reloading. He remarked how during WW2 civilian ammo and components were totally unavailable. He also said that 22 ammo was fairly inexpensive, and push come to shove it ALWAYS made good trading stock. All you have to be able to do is to turn some of it loose:lol:

When I got my little Cricket rifle set up, I tried several diiferent brands. The Aguila SE 38 HPs did really well. Since then, I have discovered that the Blazer 40 gr. solids are just as good. I don't buy the mexican made stuff anymore, I 'Buy American'. Besides, the Blazer stuff is a lot easier to find.

you poor souls I live a few miles away from dunns i have made it my unofficial gun and ammo headquarters. its the best kind of family run gun shop, and they know me by name!

they routinely beats all the big guys not only on ammo but gun prices as well. a brick of blazer is 12.99 plus tax i got a 20mm ammo can full to the brim just about every gun i own came from there and i really don't want to do business with anyone else.

I think that the last time I bought .22LR bricks, they were around $8-9 each. Ever since I got into reloading, I just don't shoot the .22s much anymore. Not counting brass (which I usually come away from the range with more than I started anyway), I can reload 9mm for about $1.954 per 50 or $19.54 per 500. So, .22LRs are cheaper, but not by that much.

Actually, shooting 9mm is cheaper than .22s since with .22s, I'm not reloading them, so I'm more likely to burn through 500 in an afternoon of shooting. Since I have to spend time reloading the 9mm rounds, I probably don't shoot as many in one afternoon. :)

I tried some Federal Auto Match in my Remington 541S. Accuracy was awful. I saved what was left of the box to use for a blasting session. I have not tried it in any of my handguns.
