Here's a couple methods. The first link is to Los Angeles Silhouette Club's website which is a wealth of info for casting, lubing, and shooting lead bullets. On the video, I do it a bit differently. I use a barrel sinker and a brass rod, one piece, and it is recommended to use micrometers rather than calipers....

Right above your post in the stickies is perhaps an example of how NOT to slug a bore. Here's the link

Oil the bore. Soft lead slug, a bit oversized. Hammer into the bore with a wooden or plastic
mallet. Drive through with brass or steel rod. I use a 1/4" steel rod jammed permanently into
a .25 ACP case with a few rings of tape to keep the steel off of the bbl. 25 ACP case end goes in
first to make a brass guide in the bore.

Measure with a MICROMETER that reads to .0001" ,not a caliper, which are usually +/-.001"
or worse.

Don't use a wooden rod. Read the sticky on trying to get a broken & wedged wood rod out of
a barrel without destroying the barrel.

Also, and I think this was Veral Smith's - LBT - recomendation, use a big/heavy hammer.

As I recall, the thought was that many taps from a light hammer would tend to expand the lead to the bore, rather then moving it through the bore as desired.

Not sure if he still does, but Veral at one time did sell lead, "push through" slugs for sluging a barrel.

His Book, "Jacketed Proformance With Cast Bullets" is a good read, and is available from Veral at Lead Bullet Technology -- HCR 62 Box 145 -- Moyie Springs, Id -- 83845
