I have funded a few of my toys with poker winnings. Poker may look easy on TV but it is a tough game.

I build and sell target stand to help fund my guns and shooting. It paid for the welder first.

-I went and got an engineering degree at 35 years old.
-Cut firewood myself for the winter (haven't bought heating oil in years)
-Still drive the Tercel I bought in 1994. (190K miles, never been in the shop)
-Have never taken a vacation as an adult. (i'm 46)
-Have never hired anyone to work on my house or mow my lawn, I do it all myself.
-The money I didn't spend on guns I put towards my mortgage. This alone saved $96,000 in interest and made for an unhappy banker somewhere.

No wonder everyone calls me cheap....

But I never pass up a good deal on a rifle:)

I sell junk that I accumulate. I funded my complete Jeep Project this way ( $50K+)and will fund guns and shooting as soon as the Jeep is done.

Right now I have probably $25K in unused junk laying around just waiting for me to get time to take pics, put it on Ebay, Craigs list, or the Autoseller.

I watched a show in TV lst week where Trump put a value on America. It was amazing to see all of the interesting ways different people make money in this country, and I have to say it even gave me a few ideas as well. One guy was making millions selling bottled water from an artesian well on his property that he was using to fill a pond. He got somebody to look at it and started bottling the water in his garage until he got enough money to build a bottling line. This is all off a water well in his back yard! There was a guy who was developer in Long Beach and they found oil on his properties so now he builds Condos with oil wells pumping right next to them. $10 mil per year off the oil. You do realize a small 10 bbl a day well will yeild @$360K per year. I can live real nice on that. You guys in Texas need to look at that possibility.

It is never too late to start a business. There was one guy who bought and sold stuff at garage sales. He made over $750K last year alone. I have to say there was nothing he was doing that was a secret or hard or beyond the capabilities of anyone who can read a newspaper and still drive a car.

You just have to have the desire to get out there and do something. The beauty of America is there is millions of ways to succeed, and only a few ways to fail.

One guaranteed way to fail, is to just sit on your **** and whine!

I got an 07/02 FFL a year ago, just to fund my gun fund mostly.

I build custom rifles, do shotgun conversions, sell suppressors and NFA items, do transfers and do some gunsmithing work such as barrel swap outs, triggers, mounting scopes, drilling broken screws out and the whole bit.

It has really served me well. Before I started it took me months to save enough for a gun, now I just buy whatever I want and I usally keep at least a grand with me for those gun buys that are too good to beleive.

I plan on retiring in 3 years, and started it to have something to do. It has done better than my wildest expectations.

Suppressor sales are at an all time high, and they are legal to hunt here with, so that makes it even better.

$20 a week makes for over a $1000 by the end of the year. You will be surprised how easy it is to make that as a start when you consider bottles of pop are at $1.50 in vending machines and smokes are over $7.50 a pack here in NY.

I drink black coffee when I need caffeine and I don't smoke anymore and you can see where my gun and reloading money can come from.

Why do you say that, My daughter is super tight with their money, and my sister considers it a sin to only send the payment in without sending in extra, to save on interest.

Past few years I have been saving all the change, pennies and all every day, plus I throw in the can whatever "extra" money I can make during the year. Probably at that rate I can buy a new gun every couple of years, but it is like finding money at that point.

I plan to supplement that little fund with selling computer and other electronic items we no longer need and some furniture or sports equipment we no longer use too.

I use a credit card that I can redeem for gift certificates. The card that I have only allows me to redeem for Bass Pro. But . . . In the last three years, I have bought two pistols (1911 and SR9c) and my out of pocket has been $300, along with the gift certificates.

This year will be the year I go without a gun, but I am doing the same thing but getting a table saw and some wood to build a reloading bench. :D

(The card is ONLY used for reimbursed business expenses and paid in full monthly)

i worked at a toyota dealership for two years (90-92) and the tercel was a guaranteed sight in the winter (valve seals and guides). that you have gotten that good of sevice out of a 'turtle' is amazing! having said that, my money for guns and other 'extras' comes from a clientelle of about 20 regular customers for auto repair. i quit repair as a full time job and went back into manufacturing fora more steady living income, leaving the auto work as an extra!

- All my spare change goes into a jar. Its amazing how much will accumulate in a short time.
- I save aluminum cans. The price for aluminum is always flucuating, so I save until the price is acceptable to me.
- I don't smoke or chew. I pack my lunch every day.
- Reward points on my credit card.
- Save my bi-weekly allowance. I don't do without, but I spend wisely.

What I will not do is take advantage of someone's kindness. Such as taking free front yard items and selling it at the local used shop. This has happened to neighbors who were expecting someone who needed the items to use them, not to sell for profit. For those who do that 'cause they need the cash to live, that's a different issue.

I work. I work 50+ hrs a week in town and help my BIL farm. Helps that everything I have is paid for. Haven't borrowed a dime since I paid off my mortgage in 9 years back in 1993. Anymore, if I can't pay for it I don't need it.

Seems easy enough to me.

I have won over $200,000 playing poker.

oh yeah,

I have lost about $300,000 playing poker.

And remember. If you are setting at a poker table, and you can't pick out the patsy, you're it.

I too just save all my change. It adds up pretty fast if you really work at it.
The little woman says I cheat because if I go to pay for something and it's 4.05 and the clerk says( do you have a nickel?) I say nope just give me the change.

I loaded 3000 rounds for my brothers 9mm/40s&W and got a Ruger Old army from him. Another 1500 rounds got me an aftermarket barrel for my Glock 22. I went to a National Turkey Federation Banquet and won a $550 shotgun, traded it for a Rem870 Wingmaster and a revolver.
I only buy guns when I get a good deal and most of them come from one of my brothers. I always enjoy showing my brothers how good my Kimber 1911 shoots since my youngest brother owned it first and sold it to my other brother who sold it to me.

I have not had any luck saviing up money lately. It use to work real well for me. but lately when ever I have some money saved up it either goes to the house or car. Maybe I will be able to save some again soon. I missed out on a real nice Winchester model 70 feather weight because of this. Oh well, gotta live somewhere and drive.

I'm not wealthy, unless you define wealthy as just above the U.S. poverty line.
I've never been married.
I've never had a problem funding a gun purchase...ever !
I've never had a problem funding any purchase I wanted.
I've never had a Mortgage, but I own a house.
I've never had a car loan, but I own 2 vehicles and a ATV.
I have always worked...never collected any money for not working.
Most of my hobbies are self-sustaining or close to it.
When I buy guns or tools for my gun hobby, I look at it like
putting money in a savings account in the bank.

Maybe I'm smart or Maybe I'm just lucky...or maybe a little of both ???

looks like most of the ways I do it a lot of others are doing it the same way. For one thing i save all my change, I pick up anything I can sell for scrape which is at a all time high, pick up the side job here and there and put some away out of my pay check. Only other thing I do that I did not see posted it loan money which is risky but I only loan to a select few. Scrape change and side work have paid for most of my toys.

I have been making, finishing, repairing and checkering gun stocks in my spare time for nearly 40 years. I have small hands, long arms and factory stocks never fit me just right. I started out by altering some stocks to fit me and just went from there. There was an older guy in town that was a part time gunsmith and didn't mind a teenager asking all kinds of questions about stock making and then giving my work a critical looking over. He also let me have a bunch of junk stocks that were piled up in his basement shop to practice on. (thanks Ralph, RIP, you have no idea what you started) Money from stock work helped pay my way through college, and fund my addiction to guns and hunting for nearly my whole life. I still enjoy it and plan to keep on doing stock work until I'm too old to do a good job.

When the kids lived at home I did drug tests. I have terrible sinus problems and would go into the allergy clinic, or they would call me to get on a drug to test. Best was $600 for 10 week study with a weekly appointment of 1/2 hour and a daily diary. most ere $250 -$350 for 6 weeks. This was the final phase before improving an exicting drug, or marketing a new one, I would stay away from the second phase of a drug test which wouold be the first use on humans.

I work outside the country, 8000 miles from my home for a whole lot more money. It has funded quite a few guns in the last couple of years. Lucky enough I guess, but I'd give it up in a sec to be back at home at the job I was laid off from.

No place like home.

Interesting answers, oddly enough I figured more people would do what I do. Let the hobby I enjoy pay for itself. The money I make off of selling brass, lead, bullets, goes into a jar & is used only for firearms. My reloading components are easily paid for every year by selling range brass, lead, and cast bullets. I ended up with $500+ this year selling free range pickings.
Some buying/selling/trading so far this year.
I bought a couple of k-22’s at different gunshows for $400 each, a 5-screw & a 4-screw to resell.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t242/forrestr-photo/k22s.jpg

I went to an auction that had guns listed & ended up buying an S&W 35-1 for $600.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t242/forrestr-photo/35-1.jpg

I put the original grips back on the 5-screw & took it & the 35-1 to the Ohio gun collectors show. Sold the both of them in the 1st hour of being there. I got $550 for the k-22 & $1150 for the 35-1 or a $700 profit. I turned around & reinvested the money in proven money makers.
A MAS45 still in cosmoline for $425, I’ve turned down $600 offers, I know I can sell it for $700 so I’ll sit on it for a couple months.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t242/forrestr-photo/masclean.jpg
A Remington 541-s with a Lyman perma-center 20x scope & 4 mags for $600. The rifle without a scope & 1 mag sells for $600 all day long. The scope sells for $200 & the mags $35 each, I was offered $900 for this setup 20 minutes after I bought it & turned it down, I’ll get $950 for it by the end of the year.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t242/forrestr-photo/541-s2scope.jpg

The usmc 40x I bought ($700) it for an investment, if these are like everything else the cmp sell they’ll double in price in 2 to 3 years. Nothing better than using/shooting a 40x while I wait for the value/price of it to go up.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t242/forrestr-photo/usmc40x.jpg

So at the end of the day I’ll sell 2 of the rifles to get $1650 of the $1700 I had from selling the 2 pistols. That leaves me with $1650 to reinvest in firearms & a usmc 40x for $50.

Pretty much what I do too. I have a separate bank account that I don't have convenient access to and direct deposit $50 per paycheck into. This is my gun/car restoration fund.
