I have a chance to buy a Miroku 1886 take-down chambered in 45-90 for $999.00 and was wondering if this is a good deal or not. The rifle is offered as used however it doesn't look like it has been fired and it also comes with the box. I don't know when it was made but it has the tang safety.

I have seen Mirokus on Gun Broker and other sites listed and sold for that price and much more. I am not sure how much of a deal it is without seeing the rifle, but if the rifle is in "like new" condition it could range from a good to a really good deal.

IIRC, the distributor CDNN has a current model take down 1886 45-70 for like $1400. wholesale.
You might want to down load their current flier and check out the specs.

FWIW, I sold my used/like new 1886 a few months ago for $1000.
It was the 26" octogon, full mag, cresent butt, non-take down model in 45-70 from early 90's.

Watch out for these guns. I have a 1886 .45-70 that was very unreliable in setting off
primers due to the total redesign of the firing system by lawyers. The rebounding hammer
lost a lot of mass, has a much weaker strike and the firing pin has been hollowed out and
a plunger added to the rear that the hammer hits. This plunger absorbs more hammer energy
tripping a firing pin lock internal to the firing pin!

Reworking the hammer rebound to change the effect and reworking the firing pin lock
timing has mine working OK.

They are beautifully made, high quality, but I have a real sour taste from the redesign. OH,
and you cannot substitute an original 1886 firing pin, they will not fit.
