Hi Guys,

I shoot Lee 7/8 and 1 oz slugs in a Beretta smooth bore AL390.

I recently saw an ad for a Carlson Rifled Choke for berreta shotguns. It claims to improve accuracy of slugs fired in smooth bore shotguns.

I was thinking of getting one since it doesn't cost too much $38.

Has anyone of you tried Carlson rifled chokes? Does it really improve accuracy?

Thanks for any inputs!! ;))

Good morning RGMJ, go for it and see if it comes in a longer version then take the longer one!
You will see some improvement!

The problem with rifled choke tubes is that the slug is moving at about max velocity when it hits the rifling. They can never match the accuracy of a fully rifled barrel and in some instances can harm accuracy.

the rifled choke on mine has done a great job in improving accuracy of slugs. I'd go for it!

My 870 with a Remington rifled choke tube actually hurts accuracy as compared to an IC choke tube using the 7/8 oz slug. YMMV

Thanks guys

Glad to read your inputs. :bigsmyl2:

I'll try one out first, borrowed from a friend before I buy.

Thanks again!!

No personal experience with rifled choke tubes here but several people have posted that they can really tighten down when shooting slugs. Not sure if that is choke specific or not but you may need a strap wrench to remove the choke tube.

Just a heads up.

My rifled tube works better than the fully rifled barrel I had for my 870. The accuracy is better with my Lyman slugs, because the shot cups aren't ripped up nearly as bad. My 7/8 oz Lees shoot good too.

how do they shoot with full speed sabot rounds? FWIW the lee key drive slug never shot worth a hoot in any of my guns but the smoothbore..Mossberg and Ultra slug hunter shot 10 inch groups at 50 yards..

The Lymans, I run full blast, and have got clover leafs @ 50yds if I can keep the flinch factor down. The 7/8 oz lee I have 19gr red dot, fed 12so, black Remmy, hulls. They are mild, and shoot good. My son shot a doe last year@ about 30 yds and put her right down.

Greetings, years back Browning had done some tests with fully rifled barrel and tests with extended rifled choke tubes, surprisingly the longer rifled choke tubes were just as good as fully rifled barrels! Some rifled choke tubes stick out 3 to 4 inches, go for the longer ones!
Far too many variables in a shotgun so until you try you never know!

Does anyone sell an extended rifled choke tube for a Baikal (IZH-94) 12 gauge?

Thanks.
