Hi all, I'm sure this has been covered before, but I just haven't had any luck finding it.
I am trying to find a mild load for my 458 Win Mag using 300 gr. cast non GC. Thanks in advance!

None of my manuals show anything for a boolit that light for the .458 but, for "mild", you should be able to use any of the 300 gr. plain base loads for the .47-70 as a starting point.

I shoot a lot of .45-70 with 300's and find that a good trap door level load is 32 gr. Reloader7. ;)

I can't give you any personal data as the lightest mold I've got is 450 gr, therefore I would just use published data for the 300 gr RCBS GC bullet with Unique, 21-23 grs@ 1532-1697 fps from 24" bbl.

23 grains of Unique or 28 grains of Aliant 2400 both give around 1600 fps in a 22" barrel. The Unique load doesn't appear to be position sensitive, but the 2400 load give better ES with a filler like a tuft of Dacron. I use a packing peanut (0.3 grain) I get from Staples. I need to cast of alloy at least BN 15 or the bullet keyhole with the 1 in 14 twist.

Is this with a regular large rifle primer?

Try 8 gr of Bullseye. Yes I am serious. Start at 5 gr and work up in 1 gr increments. Best accuracy will be around 950 - 1050 fps. You will be pleasantly surprised at how well it can shoot.

I have yet to find any cast that will shoot well in my 458. I have tried everything from 350 grain up to 463.

If you have any luck I would love the recipe. I have been swaging some, took it to the range today and they group well.

I haven't seen a .458 yet that wouldn't shoot well with cast. Are you using GC'd bullets? If yes what bullet, what alloy and what powders and charges tried?

If no GCs the same questions?
