I have the .30 and now the .35 plain base gas check maker and have a couple of questions?

Do you cut your material to the same size strips that you cut your discs from?

Do these two check makers cut the same diameter disks?

Thanking you in advance for the answers.

30 and 35 do not have the same size disks.

Strips are the different sizes as well. Cut strips to fit the die slot. Cut so it slides smoothly, but not to loose.

Check these pdf instructions out below, and it shows how I make a marker to hold against your paper cutter. Once you cut the strip width that fits well, trace the size on cardboard, or wood board, or I use an aluminum plate.

I have several marks labeled for each caliber on the plate.

I've thought about offering the AL plates forsale as I have several from ROCKDock™ plate drop.

Here's what I mean by marking a guide for your strips, using a paper cutter:

You can also make a guide out of wood flat pieces buy screwing or glueing down one piece on top of the other (the width of your desired strip), then you will have a stop. Do away with having to look at a line.

Hold the wood stop guide against the cutter table, slide your metal into it then cut.

Hope I'm making sense. I'll have to make a wood stop block, and post it.

Thanks for those pics. I spent all day Saturday de-capping and straightening out beer cans. Then I made up a guide like you pictured and it worked out great.

Oh, I used a vertical band saw with a metal cutting blade to cut the ends off the cans. Worked great too.

Good deal. I never thought of trying the band saw.

I usually just stab scissors in the side and cut the can open. Could cut a bunch of cans ends off quick with the band saw and a fine blade.

Just to let you know, Pat, I finally made it home for Xmas the other day and had my .30 Checkmaker waiting there for me for the last couple of months while I worked away. Tried it out right away and am very happy indeed with it! Will save me a lot of money and keep me busy for a while testing it out with my various lead loads. I am sure i will be ordering another before too long in maybe .32 for my 8mm Mauser or .35 for my 357. Thanks Pat. I appreciate that we have inventive guys like you we can turn to for our "projects". Keep up the good work!
