ok the HR with the Crown means it was made by Haerens Rustkammer. They produced M.89s from 1923-1932.

Hope that helps you on your way.

This came up on Gunboards a while back; congrats on a cool find! I want one!

OK, I re-read the thread on GB and saw your name way down there, so this is familiar to you. I can't add any more other than to suggest that parting with your project will eliminate any further frustration and you can concentrate your attention elsewhere. I would love to build a target rifle on a Danish Krag, and I have the rest of the parts :)

You can't get any better information on Krags than kriggevaer. That thread on gunboards is the best info you'll get.

Interesting.
A local gunsmith scored a few unfinished Mauser receivers many years ago. These came with most of the machine work done except for the magazine well opening, un heat treated of course. He intended to finish these out as single shot long range target actions.

I remember the actions were gold colored, probably some sort of protective coating.

Don't know where they came from.

There were single shot receivers made for use with Lee Metford bolts, several companies used these for civilian .410 shotgun conversions.
A local gunshop had one of these, the owner asked me to look at it because it wouldn't chamber U S .410 shells. It was in the British small case .410 chambering of course.

Got my extractor today. Looks like this build is going to be a go. I just need to save up for the barrel and stock blank. Then pay for the gunsmiths time. Dies and brass will be coming next month

Is the bolt face cut for the 8x58r dainish cartridge or 6.5x55 swedish mauser?. Just curious. Frank

The 8X58RD is expensive getting brass for but my Swedish RB in this caliber is a pretty accurate rifle. Shoots good with almost any load I use.

I would add to the 'cool" factor of a single shot target style rifle.

Nothing wrong with the 6.5X55 though.

Not suggesting this as a proper chambering but seems like I've read of a .308 target rifle built on a single shot Krag action having been used by one of the Scandinavian militaries in the 50's or early 60's.
Of course the acceptable working pressures and max deviation pressures of .308 Matchgrade long range ammo has climbed since then so some actions that held up well in those days may not have enough margin of safety for the modern loads.

I'm thinking more and more about the .32-40, 8.15X46, .32 Winchester Special class of cartridges for high accuracy cast boolit rifles.
Moderate pressures and twist rates suited to cast boolits coupled with a sturdy precicion action sounds like a great combination for ranges of up to four hundred yards or so, and pin point accurate at 200 yards or less.

Getting a barrel with both the diameter and rifling best suited to that class of cartridge may not be so easy. A 7.92 Mauser barrel would be close if a hair loose, but twist rate is not optimal for the milder cartridges I mentioned.

The cases are formed from 45-70. I am going back to the 8X58RD. Mainly because I have a repeater in that cartridge. my gunsmith and I did kick around the idea of going 45-70 like they did on some repeaters, or the 6.5 rd.
Multigunner I would personally look at the 32-40. I just like that in a nice falling block rifle.
If I want to shoot 6.5x 55 in a krag I will get my norge out.
