Just back from the scrap yard. Had a bunch of scrap metal, Al, Fe, Cu, brass, steel, zinc etc... to sell. Well my cash out was $95. Then to the lead pile and I cleaned them out. 160# at $.50 per. Well I got the lead and $15 cash. The score was about 60# fishing sinkers, 20# COWWs, 2 lead pipe sink traps and various ingots and the best was the attached thumbnail. Here in eastern VA I get a lot of fishing sinkers and decoy weights from the scrappers, most are useable and have three 5 gal. buckets full of sinkers and decoy anchors in my cache. Probably 400# easy. The lure is about 2#.

Well hey. The 15$ at least paid for the gas.

If you open and zoom the bar it is "Republic Metals co inc" . It seems harder than pure but is lead alloy. Anybody have any idea what it may be. I did the google on Republic and seems it must be some type of lead alloy. It seems to be a 15# bar and is complete, no ingots missing. 10 ga

Nice score. The scrap yard in Fredericksburg near me claims that they don't sell retail.

I'm working on a deal in Richmond for wheel weights at $0.70/lb. He's got 1000# and claims they were collected 20+ years ago, which to me means almost all lead and very little zinc, iron or steel.

Got 157lbs of sorted co and soww from my usual recycler today for $38. Been some slim pickins' lately.

Very high. I just don't see how everywhere else is two or three times more than here.

Well, I still made out at less than $1.00/lb which is the going rate around here after subtracting weight of clips. Smelted the first bucket and found 1 piece of chain and no zinc or steel weights.

Nice score! I got a half of a 5 gl bucket of WW today and I got to sort them out of an overflowing bucket. $20. Almost half of my bucket was 2-3 oz. or larger. The tire shop does a lot of truck tire business. I am sure there was more than 40# because I smelted about half when I got home and netted 24 ea 1 lb bright, shiny ingots.
