the last decade i've been hunting with a custom mauser i built in 25-06 shooting condoms because some of the areas i had stands in i might have 300-400 yard shots. well, not this year. i found a great spot in a cedar swamp along a creek bottom. the furthest shot is MAYBE 50 yards. this is the perfect spot for my 336 in 35 remington. i'll be using the NOE 360-190-fn copy of the ranchdog boolit. it's propelled by 36gr 3031 and grouping about 3/4" @50yds, 2"@ 100yds. alloy is clip-on wheelweights with 2% tin added. i hit a boolit with a hammer and had no shattering so it should hold up well. i don't expect much mushrooming, but it has a plenty wide nose to do damage with.

season opens this friday. i'll be sure to post back here if i get anything.

That should be a awesome load in the woods. .35's are great.

well, opening morning was kind to me. 10:15 this one made the mistake of coming my way. he was trotting thru sniffing for does, and i had a 50 yard shot as he moved thru. boolit went thru his left ear, entered the neck just behind the skull, and exited the far side of the spine HALF WAY DOWN HIS BACK!!!!. nearly 3 feet of penetration!!!! needless to say, he never moved from where i shot him. best part is that my 12 year old son and my father were hunting not too far from me, and were able to "hold a leg" and enjoy this with me. the 35rem with cast boolits is definately "enough gun".

well done indeed. I believe the .35 rem is underappreciated. Was your 12 year old son able to participate hunting or was he underage as a tag along?

he was hunting with grandpa. they both had tags but saw nothing. in wisconsin, at age 10-11 you can have a mentored hunt. that is one rifle for both hunters. at age 12 you can both have a gun as long as the youth has his state hunters education certificate. at age 14 you can hunt alone.

I love the 35 Remington but then again I also love the 30-30,38-40,6.5x55SE,30-06 etc.......................... Nice shot by the way. I envy you as time has not allowed me to get out this season yet.

season here only goes for a little over a week. i only got out for 3 days of it. luckily i got my buck the first morning, but never got a chance to get my doe with my 357. by the way, i use the same NOE 360-190-rf boolit in both my 35 rem and my 357 gp100. it's a thing of wonder.

Well done. I'm becoming more and more partial to the 35 Remington with cast for deer hunting. Mine is M91 Argentine I rebarreled. I use the RCBS 35-200-FN cast of WWs+2% tin / lead at 50/50. I also HP the nose with a Forster 1/8" HP tool for excellent expansion. I load them over 37 gr 4895 and they run 2150 fps out of the 26" barrel. Excellent accuracy and expansion/penetration to 200 yards. Except for my M94AE with 24" barrel the .35 Rem will probably be my cast bullet deer rifle.

Good deer. I guess it made the cold morning a little better.

Congrats on a nice deer. I've killed a couple with my .35 Remington Marlin but not with cast. I love the gun and cartridge, though.

I inherited my father's .35 rem. My brother asked to have it a couple years back so off it went. I now find myself with two .30-30s and a .308 win in lever guns and no .35 rem. It's a shortcoming I really need to rectify. I've long respected what it's capable of, as so aptly demonstrated by hornsurgeon.

Too bad the picture wasn't his son wearing an ear to ear smile. that would have been something.

Just plain awesome. 35 caliber rules.

Deer season is done here already. Turkey season ended today. Bummers all the way around.

Nicely done....CONGRATULATIONS:drinks:

The 35Rem is my second favorite cartridge and my top 4 favorites are all 35 caliber.....hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. [smilie=1: The 35Rem would most likely be my favorite caliber if I lived a few minutes farther to the north.

I personally feel the 35's just seem to like cast better than the rest for some reason. I have yet to find a reasonable weight/shaped boolit that my 1950's Ballard rifled Marlin 336 SC does not like. It is almost spooky how well that gun likes cast.

My Dad used to hunt cape buffalo in Africa with a 35 Remington pump action. He always went for heart shots. One day a bullet past all the way through without hitting bone (side shot) and broke an unseen buffalo's shoulder behind the first. Lucky he never got charged by one! Or came across an angry lion or something.

Nicely done! I'll be hunting with j-bullets next week but will be hunting with real boolits next year. Only critters I've shot with a 35 Rem were using a T/C Contender, awesome performance.
