Anyone got a good load for a model '92 Winchester in .25 WCF using an 86 grain gas check boolit and either Unique or maybe Trail Boss for Cowboy Action shooting? This was my grandfather's gun and is in very good shape. It has the regular Winchester type rear sight on the barrel and then also has a tang mounted Vernier type sight. I think the tang sight is probably worth as much as the carbine itself. Be that as it may, I would like to use the gun in CAS and am looking for a good, safe load.

In my 25-20 3.5 to 4.1 grains of TrailBoss works with a 86 grain plain base boolit. The 4.1 load runs 1140 fps. This link may be more info than you want but has great info none the less.

I appreciate the feedback. Thanks. That is a bunch of info at the link you provided. Holy boolit and powder smoke.

you can't use gas checks for cowboy shooting.

Per SASS rules you can't use gas check boolits but we are not shooting per SASS rules. we are shooting because we like to shoot.

cool then i like 1680 or aa-2230, i am currently using 11.5 grains of aa-2230 and a sr primer under a plain based 72 gr boolit.
it's pretty quick i started at 10 grs and worked up it got more accurate as i went. when i got it to the sights i quit.
i use it to shoot ground squirrels bunnies and such and little girl shot a grouse from a tree at @ 80 yds with it.
