Ok, I've got 3 different lead types all cast into cupcakes. Each cupcake is about 1lb.

Type 0 is clipon wheel weights.
Type 1 is stick on wheel weights.
Type 2 is old lead fishing sinkers.

Just scratching it, the hardness goes 0,1,2. I lack the BHN testers people have so I don't know exact numbers.

I'm wanting to cast shot for my shotgun shells. 7.5-8.5 in size for clays. I know magnum shot runs about 6% antimony and chilled 3%. Beyond that I don't know much about it. I'm wanting to add in the softer leads to try to strech my clipon lead as far as I can. What ratio should I look at mixing it in? 1lb of SO for every 5 of CO? 1lb of FS for every 10lb CO?

Clip-on works great. 75% clip-on 25% stick-on is troublesome for me, so I only use clip-on. Backstop metal works fine also. I assume your talking about magma ladle or similar. What fluid are you going to use?

I can buy shot where I am in 25# bags. I reloaded all the shotgun hulls I had, and melted down a couple of bags for my pistol boolits. I have another one in reserve.
It's magnum shot. Which means it is harder than regular shot, higher antimony.

Last go-round I got 100# of 7.5 size.

Also, if interested, I have a Lee lead tester and could do an informal test for you, if you'd like.
The shot tested out at 11.8-12.1 (air cooled-water dropped) initially cast. I haven't bothered to retest. (for example)

Last shot I made I used aproximately 50/50 stick on and clip on wheel weights. Worked really well. My friend has a Littleton shot maker.

What is the heat source? I can see a little knob in the front that looks a hot plate or something.
Where did you get the drippers? Littleton?

One of these days I'm going to have to make one of those things. Shot is getting too danged expensive.

Yeah it's a hotplate with the safety thing removed so it runs all out all the time. I want to switch to gas but just haven't gotten around to it. Littleton drippers. You can get a set for like 45 now. Yeah shot costs too darn much nowadays. Wish I lived near a factory to just buy it cheap.

pure clip on ww works best. but can do ok with range lead . After several years doing it I found that hydraulic or transmission fluid works the best for a coolent . I know there are other things but I returned to the fluid and it lasts for ever . Used trans is free if you take a bucket to a place that works on transmissions

Thusfar I've found fabric softener to work best. It washes off very easy and as a bonus, smells great. When I run shot the whole house smells like it.

I use hot water to drop into, 185-190 deg. I have four magma ladles around a 55gal drum, with double drippers size 7.5. Two electric hot water heater elements in the drum for heat. It takes about 2 hours to heat the water up. Makes 600 lb in about 2 hours.

When finished I drain the water and scoop out to a drying screen. It drys it's self because it's still hot. I put it in an old cement mixer with paddles removed. It will hold 300 lb. the mixer will sort out the blobs and doubles as it runs. The blobs and doubled don't role easily so they move to the front edge where they are easily scooped out.

To make the shot shine; After it has run about 12 hours all that left is good round shot. Then I add about 1 tea spoon of graphite and a little water, just enough to moisten it about 1/8 to 1/4 cup. Run it 2 more hours and it is so shiny black it's hard to see.

I sold 200 bag this year to a shotgun range for $30 each. It's a lot of work for $1.20 a lb. when I could just sell the lead for $.90-1.00 to bullet casters. The lead is ww and range scrap I get for free. Texas still has some lead on the tires.

I can make Better shot with hy oil or brake fluid but I can't make the volume in the Same time or as cheap.

Holy **** man.... I'd just be happy to have enough lead to run my ONE shotmaker for more than an hour. Still that's an awesome awesome setup. Don't take all the lead in texas! I've only found one place that puts out in a good 75-100 mile area.

That is quite a setup.
I've never heard of anyone using water before. I guess that would make cleanup a hell of a lot easier.

Yeah that's why I switched from anti-freeze to fabric conditioner for the easy cleanup. Also not as toxic for the dogs. I guess with water it's a non-issue completly for cleanup.... But now you've got me wondering where I can find a 55gal drum.

Try red RV antifreeze. That works good for me and its available most anywhere for from 3-5 bucks a gallon. I have found it is not so temperature sensitive as the Sierra af I was using and way cheaper.
