I didn't touch one till I got mine. Its not a FA but is better fit than the new rugers I have seen.

They are marked 480 Ruger/475 Linebaugh. But I'd double check with them. I haven't heard of one that was just chambered for 480. When I was looking for one they were listed as 480 ruger alot. The dealer couldn't tell by the listing on the computer. Had to call and check. Usually got a HUH! for response. Some of the people don't know much about what they are selling

Gander mountain has a used one. I called about it, it is in there warehouse, but I don't remember where that's at. They will mail it to the store nearest to you for $25 If I remember right. 475/480 $750.00

If I am not mistaken, there were very early versions that were .480 only. So it might be a good idea to double check. If it was made within the last 5 years it is probably for both calibers.

Go to there web sight. Look under firearms , then used firearms handguns. Then do a search on bfr and what they have will come up. Just remember the stock number when you call about it. http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?i=UF101377602&uf=true&pdesc=Magnum_Research_BFR_Handgun

I have never tried to post a link before so I don't know if this will work or not.

I had a hard time finding mine. If you want a .45-70 or .500S&W, life is easier.

Keep checking Gunbroker. I got mine with brass, bullets, ammo, and dies for less than that one at GM

there was a 450 marlin down at the gun shop in morehead city nc i think it was around 600 bucks you can send it back to mag research and have a cyl fitted for 45/70 for around 200 bucks. I went to my local dealer told him what I wanted he looked it up and ordered. If you are interested in the 450 PM me and i see if its still there.

A dealer should be able to find them. What worries me is the new owner. They seem to only want to sell the most popular calibers and others will be hard to find. They base it on orders from distributors.
If they don't get enough for one caliber, they just don't make any.
I know the .475 was on sale a lot because demand was not there. Distributors were getting stuck with them. Shooters are afraid of them or something! :veryconfu

I know mine was a bit of a compromise. I wanted a JRH or 475 but couldnt find any, and the 500 smith just sort of fell into my lap- cheap......

If you are thinking about it, get one. You will not be disappointed.

I enjoy mine. I just called my favorite dealer and had them order it for me. real easy.

Call Boise Gun Co. They get them in and out all the time. If they don't have any for you.....call next week. :)

What is the difference between a 480 and a 475? Isn't it like 48k max for the 480 and 50k max for the 475. ;)

Not much. If I had found a killer deal on one of the early .480 only BFRs, I'da bought it.

If I ever have a custom 5 shooter built, it could likely be a .480 if it isn't a .45

Like this 480?

http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm35/tk3945/guns2/480Vaquero01.jpg

I need to get off my rear and send it back to Huntington and have it cut to 4" or 4 5/8" and have some S&W adjustable sights added.

That is one awesome vaquero haven't heard you talk much about since you got it but thanks for showing it again.

White Eagle that is a cool find and I bet you just made Tom's day. I'm sure you wiare putting his kids thru school:kidding: But good luck I wish I could help ya out with the hammer and nails that 310gr mold is very tempting. Unfortunately I am as about as broke can be but someone will give it a good home. Good luck this weekend and I'm really glad that someone is able to afford the cool stuff. I look forward to hearing the post hunt details

Very nice looking. Not sure I'd own it just like that though. I'd be worried about scratching it up and that grip frame looks awful small and slippery for that recoil level. I like the barrel length.

comes from a single owner who bought it new and used it only for hunting

All I know about either of these are what I can read.

Part of the story, The other half is cylinder size in guns they're chambered for. For all practical purposes the 480 is as powerful as a 475 in a FA model 83 due to cylinder length. Wonder if more power is possible form a SRH 480 than a FA 475 because of this reason? No doubt the BFR beats both those guns in the cylinder race..

I shot a cylinder full thru it and found the front sight to be short. I fitted a rescue front to get the proper height before sending it back to Huntington. Then I decided to go ahead and have adjustables added. Also, in the meantime, Zeus came up with his group buy so I have been waiting to shoot some and see where the sight needs to be before dropping a fortune with UPS.

Plus it is stainless and I have a hard time warming up to them :)

Sad when old junkers get all the shooting and the nice ones sit in the safe.

The recoil isn't nearly as bad as my 480 SRH, plus that is a reshaped SBH. One day I'll find a square back and replace it.
