View Full Version : Will a Meister .312 work in a marlin 30-30?

I'm looking at buying a Marlin 336, maybe even in XLR. I don't have casting equipment right now and really can't in the near future. I was looking for a way to get a plinking/small game round and came across the meister bullets for 32-20. There is one you can get that is 115 grains, I think. Very inexpensive by the 1000. From what I've read, most Marlin barrels are best in the .311 range. This would be for low velocity, 1000 to 1300 fps.

Any danger of going a little over the optimum size for the bore? Would micro groove or ballard type rifling matter?

Thanks for any help.

Might work fine, but is a trial and error proposition.

If it will chamber it should shoot fine. I shoot .312 Dia. in my Marlin.

I size my cast and heat treated bullets to .312 when I lube and fit the gas check.
Unless you have an unusually tight chamber you should be fine.
