Ok, just put in my order with Magma for a Sizer and Dies. (got my tax refund. :) ) I have 3-4 weeks to get my act together and so I would like to know what a good lube would be for the following bullets:

405 Grain Lee HB 45-70 (3 Lube Grooves)
200 Grain Lyman .45 LSWC (1 Lube Grove)

And for the lube you recommend where can I get it?

Thanks for the advice on what's probably a very stupid question . . . .just want to make sure I have everything on hand when the sizer actually gets here!! :)

Oh yeah, and I ordered the heated base so don't let your lube recommendation be colored by heated vs. non-heated. I'm looking for a good general purpose lube and don't want to waste any money buying stupid stuff that doesn't work. My bullets will probably sit for awhile before they're actually loaded up if that makes any difference in your recommendation. The 45-70 bullets will be loaded to 1200-1300fps, and the .45 ACP will be 750-850fps.

Thanks in advance,
Dave

Carnauba red from lar45 on this forum. If you don't want to use heater 50/50 from lar45.

I like life simple, most likely because I'm simple.
How ever, I've found LBT Blue does well in all of my applications and Rooster Red HVR like wise.
While it was available Mirrir Lube served the same purpose but was messy, got on everything.

Just remember that if you are using BP use no lube with petroleum products. If you buy, get SPG. Otherwise using that newfangled high pressure stuff the previous advice is good.

Lube is a personal preference. I've seen more discussions get a little heated on here dealing with bullet lubes, than any other subject. that said, I really like rooster red, and I bought some "jakes" on ebay. pretty good stuff if you like the hard lubes.

Does this mean you don't have to buy a heater for the hard lubes? :-D (Pun intended!) Sorry, couldn't resist!

Someone said they like simple...me too. Call Magma back and add a pound of their brand of lube. Its just over $1.00 a stick. It is a hard lube but is not as hard as some. I size and lube a lot of boolits ahead of time and it seems to hold up just fine so far.

Yes indeed bullet lubes get heated. Gotta cook that stuff 30 minutes.

Go to lsstuff.com for Lars' products. I'm using his 50/50 mix for CAS type loads and his Black Powder lube for my BIG 50 Shiloh Sharps. Price is great and product is better. Why pay 2 or 3 times the price for something that is no better from the big guys?
