Since CarpetMan won't come out and play with us today, we need something else to kick around. I humbly submit this subject:
Marlin needs to quit making the 336 and 1894 carbines. They need to be upgraded with new and better guns. Here are my suggestions:

1. Lengthen the 1894 to handle cartridges up to 2.10" in length. This would enable them to chamber such great calibers as .357 Maximum (use .357 and .38 Specials too), .445 SuperMagnum (use .44 Specials and Magnums), .480 Ruger, and .500 S&W which would be a real whiz-bang in a rifle. Add the .22 Hornet to the list for this rifle. And if they could make it a mite stronger, we could add the .454 Casull (and .45 Colt).

2. Increase the length capability of the now 336 to 3.1" length cartridges. That would make possible the .30-40 Krag and a whole slew of wildcats from it. The .444 could be loaded to it's proper length with 350 grain bullets and get about 20% improvement over what it is now. Let's add .45-90 to the list of available calibers, enabling us to shoot .45-70s as well. I'm sure there are others we'd want to add as well.

................Scrounger has the right idea. I wish Marlin would re-issue the 1893 with the square bolt and also the real 1895, square bolt also. I will admit that the round bolt 336 series is a superlative levergun and it has proven itself exceedingly strong. My only peeve is personal and that is I think the square bolt Marlins just look nicer.

Even if Marlin would do a limited run of 1893's and real 1895's that would be something. In the M93 they could have the 30-30, 25-36 Marlin, 32-40, and 38-55. Since we're talking a special run, make them with a half and half octagon to round barrel and a full octagon, both with shotgun butts.

The M95 could be in 38-56, 40-65, 45-70, 45-90. Maybe the same setup as the M93's. Both would come with buckhorn rears, but the tang would be d&t'd for the Marbles sight. It would seem to me they could make and easily sell a couple thousand of each rifle. As big a driving force the SASS crowd is I'd think they could sell a couple thousand to that group alone.

The 445SM's case is larger than the 44 magnum case so it's hazardous to use 44's in a 445SM chamber, but I agree, I would buy both 445SM and 357SM rifles if they made them as well as 414SM and 375SM.

Just to be contrary, exactly what CAN'T you kill with the current chamberings? Hey, I'd buy a new cut-rifled 25-20.....

I'd be happy with a 45 colt that had a button magazine and pistol grip for treestand hunting.I've allways wanted a marlin 1894 set up that way but guess it will never happen. It would be fun shooting up my revolver ammo in it.They have a 41 mag model that comes close but has micro groove rifling. One can only hope.

:drinks: I added the above emphasis in that I would wholeheartedly support those chamberings and would buy new guns so chambered. :drinks:

I think most of all they need to adda bit of meat around the chamber area to accomodate fatter cartridges.

If Winchester can get the Japanese to make some wonderful 1886s 1892s and the 95 Winchester why can't Marlin get the Japanese to make one of their classics.

Let's hope Marlin doesn't follow ANY of Winchester's cues.....Marlin is STILL owned by the same family that bought it in the 30's or so....niche' marketing guns that are too expensive to make locally is a recipe for disaster that leads to the name being the only part of a company to survive....and the Japanese guns ain't that wonderful, the guns being so safe from re-engineering they might not fire reliably unless modified.....

"its hazardous to use 44s in a 445 SM chamber" . Thought 445SM was just a lengthened 44 Mag and you can use short ammo in long cases . Why Hazardous?

I'll have to claim ignorance of what you are speaking about. I've got one 1886 and two 95s, that I think are wonderful. I'll have to admit I little to no experience with the Marlins.
I avoided lever actions until I bought the 1886, then bought three more, one is a Rossi 92. I'm well pleased with all of them.

You'd probably have better luck getting Rossi/Taurus/Brazill conglomerate.... to make a lengthened version of the m92.
I really do like my Rossi M92 357 mag. I've been kicking around getting one of the new Pumas in stainless with the full octagon barrel, but should it be 454 or 480??? I know, just get both.
My safe is too full so I've been thinking of selling some of the stuff that I haven't touched in 10 years to get some new toys.
I noticed that there are a couple of Ruger bisley, stainless 357 with 5.5" bbl on Gunbroker. I should have gotten one of these in 45colt when they came out, but... woulda, coulda, shoulda. aint worth a ....
It feels like spring outside here. I should find a list of nearby gun shows.
