Am I correct in assuming the grip frame is the same as a Ruger super BH.

Any input on grips that might fit someone with short fingers. I don't have small hands, I wear XL gloves. The rubber ones it comes with feel to large, front to rear. I grew up shootin a BH and that is what fits me or maybe what I'm used to. My Fa 83 is fine but I can't get used to those rubber grips on the BFR.

Thanks, Rod

I like pachmayr decellerators. They are smaller than the stock uncle mikes.

The grip frame is very close, but not exactly the same as a SBH. Wood grips will leave big gaps. The rubber grips fit ok but not perfect.

Not quite the same(SBH grips on BFR)

Good way to show it.
Some of the rubber grips for the SBH will fit OK. They stretch a little.
I have not found a need to change mine. I really like the grips that come on the BFR.

I guess I'll whittle up a set then.

Among those who use rubber grips on SA revolvers, notably the Ruger Blackhawk, it seems that the Hogue monogrip is pretty well received. Furthermore looking on Midway USA I see a couple of positive reviews for the SBH version installed on the BFR. Now I know what everyone really wants is a Bisley BFR but assuming one is going to stick with rubber for the time being they might be worth a try at $15

Never realy liked the Bisley style. Don't realy care for the rubber grips either. I like the look and feel of wood ones.

You can send it back to MR and have them fit the Hogue Micarta to it.

How much smaller are the decelerators? I have a large glove hand. I have been looking for a set I can see in person but cannot locate one. Could someone post some pics of hem next to the factory rubber grips?

That sounds expensive. Don't need expensive right now.

Here's my .444 Marlin with some SBH grips.

I own both the factory rubber grips (which actually say SBH on the inside) as well as the Paul Ferro grips. The latter are way overprized and are so huge I cannot hold onto the gun properly. With the factory rubbers all the recoil go straight into my arm and it is a pain to shoot. With the SBH wooden grip panels the recoil is absorbed by the guns own weight and it rolls in the hand just like a single action revolver should.

bearcove, I think you better be handy or have a pocket full of change for this fix. I wish I had the ability to make grips but I don't. I bought the Micartas from BFR. Dang way too pricey, but the rubber grips do not work for me at all. I am very happy with the Micartas.

I've made grips before. Its not to hard. I have enough wood to make about 100,000 pairs. Have all the tools also.

Glad there are a few fellow rubber haters here. Mine was never fired with the rubber nor the long barrel. Of course those grips are made with all the precision of a dremel tool. Matter of fact, the grip frame is at the grip makers now getting fitted with something proper.

The two middle pics show the grips on top of each other. As you can see, the profile is pretty close front to back, they are mostly just a little narrower an have a tad more meat at the top like a DA or a Bisley. Did I mention I like these grips?

Also wanted to add, theres a little more length which gives your pinky a home. Trigger reach is improved for me too.

I think they will work just fine. I am just leaving Kodiak island from a hunting trip and will be ordered as soon as I am home. That 500/550gr combo needs a little recoil help. Thanks subsonic! That was exactly what I was looking for!

Those look good. How long is the barrel?

Is this a JT frame BFR?

Around 4 5/8 I guess. I never have actually measured it.

so some SBH grips ARE compatible? Roughly, since it looks like a 95% fit?

On a pre-JT, yes, the wood grips will fit. On the newer JT BFR's, the rubber aftermarket grips are the only ones that fit.

Hi tek,

Yes, this is the prevailing information on the internet via google, including pictures that you linked to here. BUT, if you look at the following exchange:

Is this a JT frame BFR?

You will see that the gentleman is in fact using SBH grips on what you told me was a JT frame BFR, which is exactly why I asked if it was a JT frame BFR.

You can't tell me a picture of a BFR with ruger grips that basically fit is a JT, then follow that up by telling me they don't fit. This is also the reason I asked about the 95% fit, since they don't look perfect.

So were you mistaken in the prediction that Whisler's BFR is a JT? Or do you think that it's what I mentioned about a 95% fit? Or else why suggest a picture of a BFR with ruger grips is JT and follow that up with the regular google stuff that says they don't fit?

The pics Tek posted were from his own gun. I would have to surmise that there is some variance in grip frame dimensions on JT guns, unless the whole grip frame was swapped on Whistler's gun.

You can tell a JT from a DM by looking at the base pin retaining system. JTs use the set screw (like your .460). DMs use a plunger through the frame like a Ruger or most other single actions.

I have a SBH here. I'll try the grips when I get some time, but I'm very busy this week! They are usually cheap to buy, so you might just try it. Could be as simple a where the roll pin hole is drilled?

My pic on post 3 and Whistlers grips on his long cylinder don't fit 95%, or at least what I'd call 95%.

My grips come loose very easily. I have to adjust the grip panel screw every 30 shots or so, or they will rattle around. I think that is because they don't have a snug fit to begin with. As it is there are some sharp edges that cut into my hand, but I am reluctant to blend the grip frame and would rather wait for the day when I get my thumb out and make myself a couple of custom grip panels.

My frame is not modified, the only thing I've had done with it is to shorten the barrel 3" and drill the topstrap for the scope mount. The serial number has the JT prefix.
