May be a silly question, but is there any reason that a take off bbl from a rem 700 sps in30/06 could not have the chamber end shortened and re chambered to .308 win?The chamber looks to be a little "fatter in the .308 so should be all fresh material to work with. The throat may be the only stumbling block! I would like to build a 35 whelen and need the long action , therefore I would have the spare take off bbl to be re worked and fitted to my Wichita silywet pistol that is currently a 7/08 . You know a swich bbl affair . Thanks in advance for any and all input.

I've done it on several occasions with good results. The 308 will clean out the 3006 chamber nicely.

If you want to verify things go to saami.org and get the chamber prints(botom drawing) for the two and do the math. Start at mouth of case and work your way to base as a check.

would you have to deepen enough for a whole new neck?

ie/ deepen at least 0.310?
