Just picked this one up today. Appears to be .43 Spanish, .437 bore, .447 groove. Have to do a chamber cast tomorrow.

Haven't been able to find any photos of this particular model SRC. The "J" shaped staple, its attachment to the receiver, and the double rings are a new one on me.

Can anyone here shed some light on this old Gal?

Thanks

that mark could not make it out above the 1878 date could be a country crest.

The crown is obviously an imperial cypher. Similar crown marking is found on Carl Gustaf (not saying this is a Swede produced RB, location is wrong and other marks are missing from this one). Lettering below the crown is not clear enough. I think it might start with an AE, but I'm just guessing on that.

The letters below the crown are a merged AR. and O. The Royal cypher of the reigning Spanish King. AR. = Alfonso Rex VII (1874-1888), The O. = Arsenal at Oviedo, Spain.

This one's an early (M-1871) still chambered in the original .43 Spanish rather than the Reformado chambering using a straight case and .454 dia bullet.

Thats what it is, under license to Remington. If it has an R stamped on the barrel in front of the frame, it is the "Refermando", though mine does not have it. 11.5X 58 vs the 11.15X58 Spanish.

If those pics of chamber cast from that rifle, it looks like the 11.15X58 as the Reformando is more of a straight wall case.
