I just received my mold I ordered from Dan at mountain molds. What a thing of beauty! I couldn't wait to get to casting with it either. I cast up a couple hundred of boolits out of this monster this morning and I am going to put some loads together with SR-4759 for the 500S&W BFR. Should be fun! Here are some pics-

that is a Lee 440gr boolit next to it........

Looks like your gas checks showed up too.

Check out AA1680 for more speed than SR4759.

I'll be watching for results!

That was one of my choices for powder, but I am only looking for 1300 fps or so depending on how I can handle the recoil. The bullet only goes into the case .410" so I can get 33.8grs of 4759 in the case with very slight compression. I am trying CCI 350 primers first, as I have too light of a hammer spring for rifle primers. Too many light strikes. Back to the garage to get busy....... more to follow.....

A man after my own heart. Lotsa weight, lotsa front end. Like tossing a box car.

I missed that earlier. They did show up! I have a horrible post office though- I kept checking the tracking number on the USPS website and they kept showing delivered on the 29th. Nothing....... Mind you my mailbox is a bank of boxes out on the curb with 10 other mailboxes for people in the neighborhood, and if you get a package that doesnt fit in the box, they put it in one of the larger parcel boxes and put the key inside your mailbox so you can retrieve it. I was going to make a complaint as that was 2 packages that said delivered that I did not have, so on a whim I checked all of the unlocked boxes, and there sat my gas checks, sizing die and my NEW MOUNTAIN MOLD!!!!! This was on monday night, so they had been sitting unsecure all weekend cause the mailman forgot to lock the box and put the key in my box. Furious to say the least, but relieved that they didnt get up and walk away with all the kids out trick-or-treating that night.

Well, I went to the range today with 550's over SR 4759, Lee 440 GC's over Lil Gun and 440w/o GC over Trail Boss. All cases were starline. All boolits sized to .501 and lubed with a version of Darrs lube that has more beeswax and some carnuba added. I will try 45/45/10 later. Accuracy testing today was difficult to say the least as it was a balmy 16 degrees with a 20mph wind from behind me. Cold as hell, and hard to shoot with insulated gloves on. I knew it was going to be cold so I only loaded 3 rounds at each charge just to get a baseline to start, and I wasn't sure how bad the recoil was going to be.

The TB loads were 15grs with a CCI 200 (left over from a few days ago) and chrony said they averaged about 975fps. Accuracy at 25 yards was about 1.5". I could shoot these all day long as they shot pretty soft.

The 550's were a gas to shoot. I started at 29grs of 4759, and went to 32. Bottom end at 29 ran an average of 1195fps, and the top end at 32grs averaged 1335fps. One group really stood out at 30grs, and they were running 1244, 1255 and 1243 (1247 avg) resulting in the following group at 50 yards. I did pull the last one down, which I called.

Granted it is only a three shot group, but considering the cold and the gloves I was wearing I was pretty happy. No leading, and I was looking for a load around 12-1400fps.

The Lil Gun loads didn't show much promise, and started at 27.5 and went to 32grs. I had to stop at 29 because the combination of the cold, recoil and needing to get home and pack for a hunting trip. I think that from what I saw so far, I am too light as my spread was almost 75fps- something I NEVER see from Lil Gun. I will continue that one later.

All in all I love this revolver, but the minute you stop concentrating- sight picture, GRIP, breathing, trigger squeeze- it will bite you. I couldn't be happier with the 550 gr boolit. I will work with it some more next week and try to dial in a load for it. Oh and a pachmayr decelerator grip is in the works- my hand is gonna hate me in the morning...... :holysheep

I like the decellerators on my .475, but I've got medium sized glove hands. I can see where large hands wouldn't work on them.

saz,
I told you you would love 4759. Forget about Lil'gun and stick with it. It not only gives you the velocity & accuracy, the barrel will last almost forever! You won't see any forcing cone erosion, frame cutting and such. AA1680 gives you around 200fps more speed over 4759 but recoil comes too.
