Yes. I know I must be crazy to be looking at another BFR, but the way the .475 groups has me looking at the .44 mag as something a little more "handy" to have in a holster and a little less severe to plink with.

Anybody want to talk me into or out of it? Have problems with your .44 BFR?

For 44 mag a Ruger Super Blackhawk is the way to go IMO. Cheaper than the BFR and lighter in the hand (mine at least).

The BFR is (again IMO) best suited for high recoil loads like 500 S&W, 454 Casull, 45/70, etc. It is a big heavy gun and suited to a big heavy cartridge.

Of course, shoot whatever you find comfortable and enjoy. For 44 mag I am very partial to Rugers.

Wouldn't that 44 BFR be heavier than your 475 :)

FWIW, I run out of case capacity at 26gr when shooting 300gr 44's. I consider this a Redhawk load. What would you feed that 5 shot BFR?

Good morning
Get the 45 Colt Ruger .. you won´t be sorry. A shade lighter than the caliber.44 (actually .43 mag) and is much more versitle. But if you are already set up in caliber.44 then that makes more sence and would save a few cents.

The BFR is only 5 oz heavier then a SBH but it is a 5 shot. With the faster 1 in 16" twist, it would be at home with 300 gr and up boolits.
For lighter loads with lighter boolits, the Ruger might be better.
I have never shot a 1 in 16" .44 so I sure don't know how they perform. I bet it would be a super hunting gun.

If it didn't have a 5"(what length is it really?) barrel, it would be heavier.

I have a 45 ruger. No comparison. It would probably go up for sale to fund the BFR.

I'm looking for shorter and less overkill, with similar accuracy.

I'd probably feed it full house .44 mags with RD 265gr and NOE 300gr RD copies.

I may see what happens when you push a .44 mag to 50,000psi, just because I can.

You already have a good base revolver for a shorty!

Of course when you tire of the 44, you can send Reeder the cylinder and have him ream it to a 429 GNR(or whatever he calls the 475 necked to 44)

While I could chop off my .475, I like it the way it is. As a matter of fact, I'm afraid to mess with it, it shoots so good now! (and we all know the story to get here...)

I guess I could buy another .475 to cut off!:bigsmyl2: Or a .500JRH:Fire:

But really, the .475 is a bit much to shoot more than 50-100rds through (with the long barrel), and I like to shoot my revolvers more than that at one sitting. It's an hour drive to the range for me, so I want to get with it while I'm there. Not to mention wheelweights will disappear like crazy - just about 1 weight per boolit![smilie=l::holysheep

And of course, the .44 is already cut off for me! No hacksaw required:redneck:
The only other thing I thought of was a DM .45 +P or a .454, but neither seems to make as much sense as the .44 that's already short, has JT quality , and uses large pistol primers.
