Hey all,,,

I have mainly used bought lead wire over the years but have access to some range lead .

Just want to verify ,,,PURE lead sinks to bottom of lead pot and alloy rises to top??

Which would I guess explain all the fluxing and stirring and mixing and the like.

Us more dated gentleman need reminding. :-)

NO.

Range lead is an alloy and willl not seperate into component parts like oil and water.

I mix 50% pure lead, and 50% wheel weight alloy in my casting pot, and stir. It all mixes together, and would never ever separate ever again.

Ever.

When I make lemonaide, the lemon never settles to the bottom or water to the top. Pulp aside, it's all lemonaide.

:-)

There is a long detailed scientific reason why that isn't the case.
But, the short answer is: if the pure lead is molten it will blend
with the WW alloy.

If you drop some lead alloy that has a decent bit of tin in it it will float on the top of a pot of pure lead if that's what you mean. With 50/50 it is very apparent, less so with lesser alloys.
