I've been a good boy for the last few months, so when I was in the local gunshop yesterday and saw a used .44 Mag 4" Redhawk for sale at a good price I rewarded myself a little and bought it.

I've worked up some good loads for my 629 and my Blackhawk. Anybody care to offer their pet Redhawk loads? I'm not necessarily looking for something to test my grip strength... :)

7.5gr. - 9.0gr. Unique + ~250gr. Keith type cast SWC's (sized to fit your new Redhawk, of course) work for me.

10 gr unique or 9 gr Powerpoint under a 250 Keith is medium powerful and very accurate in
multiple guns for me. Will be a pussycat in that big hogleg.

Lots of "9.0-10.0 grains of Unique" under Keith #429421 in my Redhawk x 5.5". These clock 950-1025 FPS, which is just a mite faster than "Skeeter's Load" in the 44 Special. An all-day load, too.

Thanks guys, I already use a lot of Unique w/240 gr bullets in my .44 Specials so kicking it up a notch in the mag cases should work just fine. I was trying to stay away from 296 and such, looking for something in the slightly subsonic range for fun shooting.

I have a Ruger 50th Flat Top in 44 Mag and the Mihec 503 for it. I'm wanting to carry this for deer hunting. It does good with 23.0 of Alliant 300 MP and CCI 350s.

I learned something interesting though; same boolit, same lube but with 9.5 of Unique and WLP primers, the boolit skids and leaves lead at the start of bore. If I understand it correctly I should try 8.5 grains and go have fun. But the Magnum load is no lead and has good 50 yard deer accuracy.

I hope you enjoy the Red Hawk.

That's Easy, I have one too. You were smarter than me though getting someone else to break it in. It took a Lotta rounds to smooth the action.

22g of 2400, Std. Primer behind a 250g Keith. I've had 6 shot ESs of 10fps! Just about 1500 fps.

My current Boolit is Mihs's H&G 503

Oops. Just read post #6

5g Clays behind that 240. Clean and Lite.

also:
44 Mag NOE 429421 .431 5.5g TiteGroup Wolf KVB 4" Ruger 841 fps avg.

6.5 grn trailboss under keith works well for me for just plinking loads and short range varmint control. Also my 11 year old nephew will shoot every round I care to bring over.
