Cast loads for Hi Point 45 ACP Carbine?

I have a new Hi Point 45 ACP carbine and am interested in +P loads w/230 gr boolits.

The carbine seems to like hardball loads better than 200 gr SWC. My best load is 230 gr plated bullets w/6.4 gr WSF, any brass, WLP primers. Some soot deposits on fired brass indicating to me the chamber is generous. The load is right at the max for the components, but no signs of excess pressure.

Same load w/200 gr 452460 is LOTSA soot.

Any suggestions on loads for slightly slower powders?

I looked into doing this when I used to have a Hi-point carbine in 9mm. I remember reading somewhere that I guy did a lot of testing with slower powders in +p loads to get more velocity. He only got a slight increase in velocity, but he also got higher bolt velocities and cracked frames and bolts. Remember, the Hi-point is a blow back action, not a locked breach and the higher bolt velocities will batter the frame. Slower powders will also exibit more sootiness in low pressure rounds like the .45 acp. His recomendation was to stick to standard level loads.

I load unique for my BIL who has a Hi-Point 45 carbine with a 230 or 200 gr boolit with no problems and accurate. Standard loads will be just fine and you will not batter your gun to death.

Accurate Arms "Number Two" reloading guide lists loads for the .45 acp carbine (16 inch barrel) using the following powders with a 230 grn Sierra FMJ:

Powder / Charge / Velocity / PSI - max charge

N100 / 5.0 - 5.6 grns / 822-934 fps / 19,100

No. 2 / 5.5 - 6.1 grns / 821-933 fps / 19,200

No. 5 / 7.8 - 8.7 grns / 920-1045 fps / 19,300

No. 7 / 9.9 - 11.0 grns / 920-1045 fps / 17,800


No. 5 is supposed to be a little slower burning than Unique. No. 7 is near Blue Dot in burning rate and may get you back into some of the problems already encountered.

I picked up a HiPoint .45 to compliment my 1911A1. For both I use the Lee TL452-230-2R, pushed by 4.5gr of TiteGroup. No problem hitting 3" steel plates at 50yds offhand w/ the carbine... but that red laser sure is useless in daylight.
