Is there a difference between the to subjects stated in the OP? I just did a casting last week with the new age WW (painted and light grey), and my boolits seem softer compared to my previous alloy with the old dark grey and black WW that I acquired in the early 80's. In question also, is my alloy might have softened after a 400 degree oven heat treat from a couple hours after HT to a week. The week old HT alloy seems softer than the alloy that wasn't HT. It just might be old eyes and crude testing. Any comments?:-?

This has been covered to death in other post!

The newer COWW are softer. They contain less Tin and less Antimony. There is no set recipe or mix for WW Lead, so don't waste your time trying to find it. To make it worse, the Chinese are now buying US scrap lead, making it into WW and shipping it back into our market. There is no way to know what is actually in that either, unless you get it tested.

My recommendation; avoid Zinc like the plague and use Wheel Weights with Linotype and/or Solder to make what you need.
