G'day, I've been looking at getting a sharps and the chiappa has a very nice price tag. I know their leverguns and .22 pistols have had problems but a sharps being a simple action they couldnt stuff it up? Does anyone know if the barrels are any good or should i spend more and get a pedersoli?

There is a reason they are cheap. Get the Pedersoli.

ive handled and shot two of there mini sharps. A 45 colt and a 30-40 kraig. Both seemed like well made little rifles and shot well. My buddys 12 year old daughter shot a cow buffalo with the 45 colt.

I bought one of these, #352, earlier in the year and it shoots GREAT. It is about as accurate as my original Rolling Block with a 34 inch Badger barrel and the wood, engraving, etc seems really nice. Last time I looked there was one on Gunbroker.

I have not owned anything Chiappa ... That said, the Italian gun makers are very capable of making high end shotguns and rifles, and naturally they charge a high end price. Low priced Italian sharps can have soft parts and poor fitting…. Or not. The old rule, you get what you pay for applies for the most part.
For what it is worth, I have never known anyone to shoot one in regular BPCR target rifle matches.

BTW-Pedersoli is known for great barrels.

I have a "Lil Sharps" in 38-40. I had to use boolits as cast .380-.381 to fill the bore, BUT from a rest with a scope I got a 3 round group at 100 yards you could cover with a quarter. I like mine a lot. They are right though, you get what you pay for.

P.S. With jacketed it also shot (grouped) well at 50 yards, but I wanted to shoot cast at a 100. :p

Chiappa is the same outfit as Armi Sport.
Their Sharps rifles run from very good to pretty poor, and it seems to be a toss-up as to which kind you get.
If the rifle you are looking at is used, and known to be a 'good one' it is probably worthwhile to pursue it.

Without certification from a trustworthy shooter who has tried it, I would opt for the Pedersoli.

I have owned a Competition model Pedersoli 1874 Sharps in 45-70. It was a tack driver and shot right with the big name guns.
The other model is also made by an Italian group and is as has been posted known to be very shabby at times. A friend of mine purchased one for his son as a Christmas gift and it broke the firing pin on the second shot. This has been something that is said to happen on a regular bases.

I have 2 of their Little Sharps. One ein 45 long colt and one in 38-55. I've had no problems with them. And they shooot way better than I canhold dor my eyes see. A buddy and I were shooting bowling pins off hand at 50 yards and I went 5 for 5! Moved em out to 75 yards for a bi tmore chalenge. I like em. And at $1,100 each I don't consider them cheap.

A friend of mine has one in 45-70 shooting basically pure lead with just a bit of tin to help fill out the mold. Another friend has a Browning BPCR . The budget Chiappa shoots every bit as well as the Browning. Only critizism has been screws loosining . Had to apply a bit of small screw lock-tite.

Isn't Chiappa making the Lyman MiniSharps? Still questionable quality? Anybody have one of those?

Out of all the Italian gun makers there is one that has made more bad guns than all the others combined. That company is the maker of the Chiappa rifles. They are known as Armi Sports.
When you buy one it's as MC posted and that is a **** shoot. It may work and it may not with the odds leaning towards the may not side.
Read my first posting on this gun and you will see that I told my friend to not buy the rifle and the gun store owner said I was not correct.
He purchased it and it failed on the second shot.

I've got the same gun oldracer posted. I guess I was lucky to get a good one. I did replace the rear sight with a Hadley disk though.

Unless I missed it, Pedersoli doesn't list a mini sharps in their catalog.
