After casting some 175gr out of a Lee Mold that I got from Midsouth, I sized and lubed about 60 and tried to load them today. At first I screwed up the points with a RCBS seater that apparently didn't fit. So I jammed some tinfoil into the seat plug until it fit the nose. Then I primed and charged the case with 16.5 grs of 2400and when I went to seat the boolit it hung up in the die. I had to thread the stem out and you could see where the die ground on the ogive of the boolit and when I lowered the case the bullet was hung in the neck crimp of the die. It's a good thing that I have a stockpile of jacketed bullets, it looks like I'm going to need them. I know I can have RCBS make me a seater that will fit my nose configuration for $16.95 + shipping but what in the hades can I do about this tight @$$ die? Has anybody else had this problem? I am receptive to buying another mold since this boolit is 1.243" long and seats way below the shoulder and I don't particularly care for that. Hence the name "Cruise Missle." BTW the mold drops them around 0.271" and I got Buckshot to make me a sizer @0.267 since I slugged the barrel @ 0.265.

You need to lap out the neck portion of your seating die so the boolit will slide thru then the seating stem can do its job.

6.5x55 ???
I guess it doesn't matter.

Anyway, if you don't want to crimp, you could use a 270 seater die.

I may have a lyman mold for you,
but I don't want to part with it, til I
get my GB NOE 269 145Gr. FN mold
http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=116328

my lyman mold is a 266469 140 gr. dbl Cav.
it drops boolits at .268
my rifle needs .2685
I beagled the mold to drop boolits a .271
then size them down to .269
they do shoot great, but
what are a pain to cast, one cavity is quite sticky
and I haven't found a solution to that.

7x57 seater works as well.

This sounds like a "dooable" to me.

Thanks

Larry is right.

A 7 X 57 mm seater die is your best bet to quickly take care of your problems PERMANENT.

7x57 die will work fine as noted, but watch your alignment. Try to get everything lined up straight to start with.

Bret is correct; I use the Lee 7x57 seater but also use a correct M die so things get started straight. Most seating stems for the 7x57 have a fairly sharp taper for J bullets and it keeps thins aligned on that end. The Lee flaring tool may or may not give alighnment problems with just the mouth being flared.

I think that sizing down from 0.271" to 0.267 would put too much pressure on the nose and probably deform it or swell the ogive of the boolit. By golly, I may have put too much pressure on sizing them originally, causing the swell at the ogive. I will have to cast up some more and mic them to see if I screwed up the boolits in the first place by trying to force them too deeply in the die.

Have used larger cal seating dies on occaision a number of times including 7x57 for 6.5x55. However as Bret stated, be sure to have every thing as straight as possible in seating for obvious reasons.
