I like my Cetme...only thing wrong with it..it don't like the curved Cetme magazines..does work fine with the steel and aluminum G3 mags work great.

The day I got it(Obama gun)..I went out to shoot it..and it was one of those 115 degree days..and 2 mags worth of shooting and the forearm was so hot..I couldn't hold it anymore...and it took forever to cool off...

The Cetme can kill it two directions..in front of the muzzle..and in front of the ejection port!

yeah is it normal for a Cetme to kick the brass SERIOUSLY 50+ feet away from the ejection port? i shot about 100 rounds and found 9 or so...so its not going to be a fun gun for reloading, i have a feeling im going to lose all of my brass with this gun, does anyone know of any good Boolit loads for it that might place the brass closer like....30 feet lol

Yes..robust ejection is normal.

My HK G3 can throw brass for at least two townships. I'm sure it was designed that way, to fend off flanking movements.

The G3/CETME/HK-91 rifle family treats brass very poorly--throwing it into the next county, and bending it and swelling it in its fluted chamber to a degree that 2 refills on any brass you manage to capture after firing is about it. The ejection port buffer didn't help much, just cut the flight distance in half and stoppaged the rifle at least once per 20-round magazine. Its departure when the AW stupidity took place in CA was unmourned, and remains so. I did make a group of money when I sold it, though.

I think an M1A is a far more civilized system, and it keeps brass fairly close to the operator. It runs well with castings, too--if BruceB's rifle and loads are any indication.

So do the Swedish 6.5X55 Ljungmans (sp). Not designed with the reloading hobby in mind.

Am I remembering correctly that the early generation CETME's were chambered for an anemic loading of the 7.62 NATO, and weren't intended for use with the full pressure stuff? I never owned one having shied away because of the warnings about that way back when. I'm guessing it may have been urban legend, but...?

No, it was NOT urban legend.......you are correct. I'd suggest anyone shooting one of these and using full pressure ammo take some time and study the history of the development at the CETME plant in Spain. I think you're going to have to hand load for best performance/safety.

Now, does the violent ejection make sense?

Japan also used a lighter loaded cartridge for their 7.62X51 battle rifle.

Would a stronger recoil spring make the Cetme suitable for more powerful 7.62 NATO ammo and some .308 ammo?

The Interchangeable NATO Infantry Ball has bullets of weights varying from 144 grains to 150 grains and muzzle velocity of from 2750 fps to 2850 fps and chamber pressures of around 48,000 CUP or 50,000 PSI. Some specialized 7.62 cartridges use bullets of around 175 grains at nearly the same velocity and chamber pressures significantly higher and with maximum deviation pressures far higher than allowable for the Infantry Ball.

The Translation of the Cetme Manual gives muzzle velocity as 2559 FPS as opposed to the 2750-2850 of the interchangable Infantry Ball. So it would appear they used a lower pressure load.

Next step, order 50 Aluminum G3 mags from cheaper than dirt. Only $0.97 right now.

I have been working up a load using a Lee 200 gr gas check with WC846. Started with 37 grains. First range outing I learned it needs a Magnum primer. 5 misfires out of 50 rounds. 5 bullets stuck in teh bore too. Glad I caught them.

All the ones that went bang cycled the gun fine. If the magnum primers fix the mis-fire issue, then we will test accuracy.
