Was given a pile of reloads for the .280 remington that I pulled apart. Glad I did, be careful whose handloads you trust. Now have quite a few 150 gr. jacketed bullets I am really not going to use for anything but plinking. After my success using Unique and 2400 with my cast loads I am wondering what I can do with them. Looking for light loads with the J's for 280 Rem. Will be for amusement, plinking purposes only. Advice appreciated, thanks.

I truly cannot tell from your post if you are looking for light loads using 150 jacketed bullets or for light loads using cast bullets or even for loads in the .280 using Unique or 2400.

Sorry, want to use the J's in light loads in the .280 Rem.

I'd use the slower burning 2400 and start with 16grs. Work up to where you figure they're fast enough to suit you and you don't have any pressure signs.

RED DOT is a good "reduced load powder.

I would normally want as light as possible boolit for the reduced load, but the 150grainer will be OK.

Go the Lyman cast boolit handbook and you should find info there that can get you started with the reduced loads.

Most/many of the loads listed are "reduced" when compaired to typical "J" bullet manuals and that type of published data.

I have used the Red Dot for reduced loads in a 270 and it worked great.

In fact, recently saw a published site about just such a use.

Will try to find it and pass it along.

Keep em coming!

OK, looked it up in my, "favorites" and if you'll type in "The Load" in your search it should come up for you.

The recommendations are for .30cal and larger, but I think ?? it was about 12gr. of Red Dot I was using in the 270 with 100 or 110gr "J" boolits.

Keep em coming!

I have started playing with a 308 while using IMR's SR series of powders.
They all went bang when they were supposed to,so i will be playing some more with them.
