To get this impression in the loading gate. Hard to get a pic but you can even see the dimple in the primer from the firing pin and the lettering on the case head

http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm35/tk3945/DSCN0465.jpg

And a taste of F/C erosion

http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm35/tk3945/DSCN0484.jpg

Throw in some breach face wear/erosion

http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm35/tk3945/DSCN0467.jpg

And finally some strategic blue wear

http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm35/tk3945/DSCN0486.jpg

I imagine it has digested enough rounds to pay for itself a few times :)

You confuse me! A 3 screw with a SBH grip frame? The gate is not consistent with a SBH. Neither is the trigger plunger or hand.
Anyway, I would guess 60,000 to 100,000 rounds based on the sand blasting of the cone.
My SBH shows much less after over 62,000 heavy loads. Uncounted light loads. My breech face only shows some pounding, no erosion.

Depends on how hot they're loaded, with what, and rate of fire.

My Bisley is getting the case head imprints, but not the other things yet.

My answer: not enough rounds! It's not worn out yet.

Btw, my father in law has a 3 screw Sbh he bought (new?) sometime around the early 70s. I also have seen others. But knowing Tek, none of those parts probly left Ruger touching each other

That's what I think. But it is still good to go for a long time. I do not remember when Ruger came out with the Super. Was it still the 3 screw?
The gun is broken in! [smilie=w:

MY wife bought me this SBH for Christmas in 1972. Bill of sale says $107.50 + $7.50 tax.

Nah. This one is mostly factory. I did replace the cylinder as the original had too much slop and the ratchet had cut into the breach. I had to buy two cylinders to get one long enough to fit. I cleaned up the breach with a flat stone on a shaft. I slid the shaft through the hole for the rear of the base pin and turned it with a drill to get rid of the battering. Then I trimmed the gas ring on the new cylinder so it had no end shake. It also has a 26# mainspring, light trigger spring, and a Millet sight.

That 4" Super looks really handy. I also have a 3 screw Super that I like allot but the trigger guard kills my second finger when shooting those full throttle loads. When I was younger I thought the only thing to shoot in the 44Mag was full house loads, these days 10 grains of Unique with a 245swc gets shot for most of my 44 shooting. I find myself picking up my 4" 629 more often then the Super. I also have a 3 screw flat top 44 black hawk that is more enjoyable to shoot than the Super. I love the old 3 screw Rugers, can't have too many of those.

I want to ask you a question after looking over your pic's again. The pic of your forcing cone looks like my old Smith 29-2 that digested allot of H110 and 245SWC, my question is, does it spit lead when you shoot it? My 29 spits lead good when shooting mag loads. Because of that I have not shot it in a very long time. I have thought of sending it back to S&W to have that corrected but I'm afraid I would not like what is sent back, so I just keep it in the safe. I'm interested in seeing what your gun does with the erosion it shows. Thanks

The breech face erosion shows primer leakage. I wonder if that is normal or due to pressure
that is too high, or maybe brass used to the point where the primer pockets are loose.

Any info on this anyone?

I have never felt it spit on me in well over 500 rounds, but I did replace the original cylinder that had excessive end shake after only a few rounds. I can tell it did spit before I got it by looking at the boss around the ejector.

OK curiosity got the best of me. I just pulled it down and looked at the breech again. That isn't erosion around what would be the outer rim of the case head, it is where the breech is set back from firing. That dark line from 11 o'clock to 5 o'clock, just outside the bushing, is where the lettering is stamped on case heads. I have never pierced a primer in this revolver, nor blown a pocket. Leaky primers would have caused erosion near the center, right?

Also, it isn't as pronounced now that I have cleaned it.

Oh no! Why did you clean it? It won't shoot good again for at least a couple hundred rounds...

After

Only made one pass with chore boy, then one with a brush dipped in Hoppes 9, followed by a dry patch. It only had maybe 500 rounds since cleaning.
