My 1950 Marlin 336SC in 35 Remington! And it doesn't have any safety (yea) and IS a waffletop. I am a happy camper! It will be shot tomorrow.

I had one of those circa 1952 that I purchased at the Hunters Gallery in Hamlin PA about 7 years ago !

I put a Lyman peep on it and shot some very nice groups with the RCBS 35-200GC and later with the Ranch Dog 359-190GC .

Also used it to kill a deer or two with the RCBS bullet !

Hey 6 pt them 50's Marlins are kooll! And built like a tank too. Did your trigger have the flop or not? Mine doesn't. Also if you still have the RD 2 boolit mold and want to sell it contact me.

Sorry I sold my no longer used molds almost 2 years ago !

If I'm not mistaken his original test mold for the 359-190GC was a 6 cavity also .

OK, please educate me. What is "a waffletop" in reference to a Marlin levergun?

On top of the receiver are embossed/machined "wiggley" lines to reduce or break up glare from the smooth receiver top. Today they just shot blast it to a slightly rough surface that does NOT glare. Waffelling is way more expensive way to do it and a thing of the past.

FYI, unmolested Waffle-tops are NOT factory D/T'd for a scope on top - just the two-hole peep sight prep on the left side.

BTW - 1950 was the 1st year, or the year the .35 Rem was introduced, in the Sporting Carbine ! . :drinks:

.35 Remington is on my short list of levers to get. I just picked up a 1894 44 Mag tuesday, so the 35 is next. Congrats.

Dandy new gun Tom. Now I know what a waffle top 336 is! I sure like my receiver sight on the 444. What sights you using on that rifle?

I picked this one up a while back and traded it off for a 38-55 CB because I had all the casting equipment for the 38-55. Regretted it and got it back. It no longer wears that scope, but now has a red dot until I can improve on it. I am using jacketed bullets at this time as deer season is here but plan on casting for it down the road. It is a 336 A with a 24 inch barrel in 35 Remington. I had to do some loosening on the forearm as it would walk about 3 inches to the right after one shot. I do not know for sure how they even put the forearm on as it did not go back on without a lot of fitting. It has the waffletop you are talking about, but someone screwed up the tapping job as it does not quite fit the scopemount, but it did sight in OK with the Red Dot. It also has the compass in the top of the buttstock that I would kind of like to find a replacement for.
