I was reading through some older posts, and I saw mention of the bushnell TRS-25. I saw one yesterday mounted on an AR and it is a pretty slick little sight. Just wonder how it would hold up to recoil. I know that the consensus is that Ultra Dot is the way to go, but if I can pick one up for $65 I just may try it. Anyone have any experience with this sight?

I bought one, but to use on a .22. It's rated for ".375 H&H rifles". That equates to .357 mag handguns in my mind from experience on keeping scopes in place in rings...

My Sierra Infinity recoil calculator says the following:

a 10.5lb .375 300gr @ 2700fps using 80gr of powder gives:

16.2fps recoil velocity
5.3 lb-mass ft/sec recoil momentum
42.6 ft-lb weight recoil energy

and a 2lb .357 shooting a 160gr @ 1500fps with 15gr of powder yeilds:
20fps recoil velocity
1.2 lb-mass ft/sec recoil momentum
12.4 ft-lb weight recoil energy

A 4lb .500 S&W shooting a 550gr boolit at 1200fps using 30? gr of powder gives:
25.8fps recoil velocity
3.2 lb-mass ft/sec recoil momentum
41.4 ft-lb weight recoil energy

I think the high velocity and low momentum is what kills the optics. The hanguns "take off" fast, but also "stop" fast because they are light and don't have much momentum. The optic gets hammered with the quick start and the quick stop.

For $65 with a good warranty, try it and see. I like the one I have. I recommended it to a buddy before I owned one because he wanted something cheap for a .22lr AR copy and Cabelas had them on sale. His was so nice, I had to have one for my Ruger MKII .22 when Cabelas put them on sale again.

I think I'm gonna try one. With he revolver already at 4.5 lbs with optic and mount should bring it to the neighborhood of 5 lbs. I really like the dot inside- it is very defined. I use aimpionts regularly (I am army) and the Bushnell is just as nice and clear, plus it isn't very bulky.

Don't be alarmed when you get it if the front lens looks crooked. That's just the way they're made for some reason. No rings to slip...
