Scored 40 more lbs of very soft water main joint lead today. A few more valve jobs and it looks like another smelt(cleaning) is in order. I have been averaging 15 lbs of lead from each valve we take out and replace. The lead I got today has been in the ground since 1924. Many of the valves that get replaced have been installed since 1911-1919-1924... Must have been busy years!!

Nice! If it was from H2O mains. Ive found some not much but some from High School Chem labs to be problematic. Smelt all questionable sources outside, period!

One of the better sources, smell sucks , but urinals. OLD buildings and look for roofing jobs.

the oakum in the joints stink pretty good. I try to powerwash most of the black nasty stuff off before smelting. That seems to help quite a bit.

Lucky you, gotta check the weather channel in my case. ;-)
