Thank you for checking out this thread. As a safety habit, I always look down inside my cases before setting a bullet to double check the powder level. It isn’t easy to get light directly inside the press cage with-out having some hot, glaring gooseneck light in the way. In looking at ways to solve this problem, I have come up with this item and design. It features a 110 to 12v adaptor wired to a 6 LED flexible strip which has a piece of 3M Redline doublestick tape on it. I did not wire in a switch as I figured it would be plugged into a multi-outlet strip. The LED’S put out a ton of light and zero heat. They are also sealed inside a clear silicone casing. The LED strip mounts to the inside beam of just about any press flooding the shellplate with bright white light.

So the question is, do you think you would purchase something such as this and at what price point would it be worth it? It is not a cheap item to produce, but really does the job. I did not want anything with batteries, as the LEDS get dimmer as they the batteries discharge and are expensive. The LED lights also have a expected lifespan of over 50,000 hours.

Prices on my website are always “Shipped” prices and if purchased with another item, it would be discounted and shipped free with that other item.

That a nice light and nice stuff on your site too. Unfortunately, I already have a handle from Ultimatereloader.com. for my LNL. I use a Harbor Freight LED light (1"x3") 2 for $2.99 it just fits on top in between the dies and shines down through the center hole onto the shell plate. Your unit has much more light but the Harbor Freight Flashlights are sufficient for my needs.

You would do well to get some pics posted using the light on a Dillon press.

As for price, maybe $25 if it includes postage.

+1 on showing the example on a Dillon. The poor "Case area light" impacts nearly all presses in one way or another. It is a problem that needs "non cheesey" solutions and it may vary from press to press - don't know. I would pay in the 25-40 range for a set-up that could be easily moved from press to press that was completely non obtrusive or invasive of the loading area. Yours looked nice but might be over kill. As it is I have unobtrusive & moveable overhead lights that do provide needed illumination but your set up is far superior where the light is really needed.

This is a better solution to using a light on the Dillon shell plate shining thru the hole.

Why? Because I did this and found my powder charge bar hung up a few times and I almost
had squib loads... of course the light shining into case and my M1 Eyeball caught the lack of powder but Murphys Law was there !

I will speak for myself: I would like to have such a light system as the OP shows. I would buy one and if he has one for sale, pls email me or message me so I can get one.

I got a Dillon 550 and Dillon 650 press. I don't trust nothing when it comes to dropping powder and I trust only what I see ..... and I want to see into every case that powder is there and at right level. Hey, thats just me and old ways but I like that.

Good idea.

Also lets you see flaws in cases such as split necks.

Personally, no.
Because I have good lighting around my shop already.
But others might be interested, if you can do it at a price that will compete with the offshore people.
I see your trying to resell a China product.
The deal is: Why buy from you, instead of Radio Shack, Walmart, or Harbor Fright?

Free shipping is a big plus, but not big enough to open my wallet.

Think you can beat these guys? (http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&Page2Disp=%2Fled_prods.htm)

These are the tough questions that only you can answer.

Good luck with your venture. But like they say on Shark Tank, I'm out.

Neat idea but I would rather not have to stick it to the press. I might zip tie it on there, but nothing gets glued or taped to my press. I have a tiny goose neck led from Stream Light right now, but I'm going to buy a RCBS lock out die and call it a day. It is crazy bright though but much of the light is wasted since it isn't going down into the cases. I like the concept though. If I wanted it I would pay maybe up to $40 max including shipping.

I wouldn't mind a flashlight bezel outside threaded 7/8-14 to light up cases.

A comment please on lock out dies and powder check dies: I am all for them and use them on progressives. However.... I don't trust nothing mechanical and I still want a light that lets me check powder levels in those cases.

Yeah, thats over kill but why not ? A pound of prevention.

Lights: seeing powder levels....... this is a good thing !

Hi guys. First of all, thank you very much for the input! I have decided the system should have an inline switch on the cord, so I have parts inbound as well as more LED'S & 110 to 12v transformers to meet a surprising demand. I expect parts Mid next week and will update accordingly.

I have that same Hornady Press and use a goose neck light to see inside of the case after the powder charge..I'd like to have something like that..but with a switch...I could add the switch..

I have had some email traffic with this gentleman and
intend to order the light and a roller handle for older Rock Chucker press.

Very helpful information and I am at that point in life that little things
that make tasks easier or less Murphy prone are very much appreciated.

The roller handle on my Dillon 650 is awesome ... how I never got one for my 550
is beyond me, and so the RC is getting one pronto. Its not just speed, its comfort
and ease of operation.

Seeing powder levels with a light that works without heat ? Good stuff !

Thank you all for the compliments & feedback! I received a nice online review.

These have been very well received and I have also evolved to a brighter white output led. I started with warm white to keep it easy on the eyes, but during further testing decided to roll with the Bright White for max lumen's.

I would probably look for something smaller, that just had 1 LED that shined directly into the case full of powder, but that's just me. I might try for a magnet to mount it with, but that would not be so good on an aluminum press.

I use a clip on LED reading light that is battery powered and has a gooseneck and a shield so you can put the light where needed .Cost a dollar at the second hand store.

Dan: I think your product is developing nicely and I saw it on Ebay.

Did you get much response?

I think you have a good product. Keep at it. Not all prodcuts take off immmediately. You need to maintain a presence, and if you can get picked up by a major catalog you'll do good.

Hi Randy.

It is doing pretty well. I haven't had any complaints, just happy, satisfied customers. Thank you for the compliment!

IMO ill give you a A+ on your light assy . im 63 now and that means your eyes need more light to see correctly , after trying 2 different battery powdered LED clip on lights with flexable shafts priced from $10.00 to $17.00 each and never being satisfied . i purchased your light set up and im am very happy to find something that works to my compleat satisfaction . after reloading 700 rounds with my new light set up from you.
I had to trim a about .020 off the 4 shell plate rotating thumb leavers on my dillon 550 to get enough clearance for rotation other than that minor problem all is well ! but perhaps i did not locate the mounting of the light bar exactly right.
Thanks Bob

Thanks for the compliment Bob. I am happy that the LED addresses your need. Always nice to hear good things! The fit tolerance on the 550 is veeery tight. It does fit in just the right position.

(That reminds me to revamp the install instruction sheet to mention to do a "dry fit" before removing the back off the adhesive strip)

Gotta tell you your kits are looking real professional.

I definately am going to get one for my SDB's and your new multi light strip with a single power source looks like the right way to go for multiple press set ups. One power source and several light strips.

Plenty of light going on there.

I would talk to Dillon about getting these into their monthly catalog I would think they would jump at the chance to have this product Same with all the other loading tool mfg's.

I think you've got a nice product and I hope you make a million $. Looks like a winner to me!

Any chance of getting the pieces to retro fit 2 of the short strips to the LNL?

Just guessing, but I almost think that 2 of the short horizontal strips at the top (one front, one rear) in addition to the long vertical one would be great. With just the single vertical strip, I still find myself using a mini flash light to see in 38/357 cases.

1in9Twist,
I would like to thank you for the great idea, as I just received my Lee-Pro1000 in December and was looking for a way to brighten that area up. I took your idea and down sized it a bit, using 2- 3.6v LEDs and a 9 volt battery with a resistor in line.
I also ran across instruction that allow one to change the shell plate without removing the carrier, if any one is interested in those please let me know.

No problem. Just send me a note that you intend to install it on a 550. I substitute the thinner pigtail light.

Actually, very soon they will all be the thinner version as we are going away from the 3M "Dual lock" system.

I'm going to have to order one of these for my 550.

I like the idea of lighting it up like a christmas tree. Old joke between my wife and I are the LEDs for ground effects on vehicles. Now a real use for LEDs.

Modular lighting here I come.
