View Full Version : 311419
I have a friend that has been looking for an 88 gr. 311419 g/c IDEAL bullet mold for a long time to use with this 32-20. He finally found one ! I had cast a few bullets for him from his " New Mold ".
I had about 40 or 50 of them in a container. I thought ....Ummmm ? ?, I wonder what would happen if I g/cd these bullets and lubed & sized them to .311 and shot them out of a 30-06. I used my Tikka , 30-06 today to test these loads.
I only loaded 5 rounds, the distance was 50 yards. The powder charge was 9.0 grs. Red Dot.
The 1st photo is an NOE 311365 surrounded by the tiny 311419's :

Here the 311419's are loaded in 06 cases ready to be tested:

If someone can locate this mold ( which isn't easy to do ), and they want to conserve lead and target shoot ( paper punch ), this is a great way to conserve lead. BTW.....I was really surprised when I walked down to the target ! !
This would be a GREAT load to train a youngster with when transitioning from a rim fire to a center fire rifle.

Sweet. Wonder how fast that 9 gr of Red Dot is pushing them.
I have no idea, maybe someone can shed some light on this with an educated guess ?

.308, 86, Hornady RN 3100 with 9gr of RD seated .200" deep gives about 1825fps from a 24" barrel - QuickLoad data

Well now....... that takes the guessing out of things , doesn't it.
Thanks 32ideal !

#311419 has been a "pistol boolit only" for me so far, specifically the 7.62 x 25 Tokarev and 30 Luger. It stays accurate--flat shooting--and LOUD to 1500 FPS in the CZ-52 and the Ruger P-89X. With the latter pistol, I slip in the 9mm recoil spring with the 30 Luger barrel and still have fairly sedate ejection at those velocities.

I recently came across one of those molds the other day. It was with a bunch of other molds that some guy gave to a gun shop owner. I seen the molds and asked how much for all of them and he said how about $50 for 4 molds and two sets of handles (all single cavity stuff). Now I need to play with this mold in the 30-06. Thanks for the post.

Let's say you have 7 lbs. of alloy and you want some .30 cal. plinking bullets.
Your basically shooting 2 bullets while most other .30 cal. shooters are shooting 1 from every 180 grs. of alloy poured from the casting pot.

Nice shooting & pics Ben. Wonder how those would work for a mid-range load in a Krag high wall.

................Puts me in mind of the Lee C309-113F, of which this board has done FOUR group buys in 6 cav moulds

8.0grs of Red Dot, Lee C309-113F. 1903 Sporter Springfield. Iron sights, 50 yards. Scabby disreputable looking garage done thing, but boy will it shoot :-)
A friend had the slug doing this well at 100 YARDS from a scoped M94 Win 30-30 using H4198 (23.0grs) at a tad over 2100 fps :veryconfu But then, there are M94's and then there are M94's!

I'd like to have one for use in the various thirty caliber rifles, but mainly for the .32 H&R Magnum.
Yet another mold to search for....

Along the same line-I tried the #3118 (PB and 118gr)sized .311 in a 30-06. 10gr Unique gives about 1550fps in a 24" barrel and excellent accuracy at 100 yards. The only problem is they wont feed from the magazine in my M-70. That short, flat point tips up and catches on the recess for the upper locking lug. But that flat point gives a clearly audible (and satisfiying) WHACK when it hits a groundhog, so I don't mind single feeding them.
As was mentioned above, 32-20 bullets can make great plinking loads and light hunting loads in 30-06.
